I bought my 13-14 license last week but instead of buying the super combo this year I opted for hunting only. I also got the migratory bird stamp for dove, but no others. My question is my license has turkey tags on it, is that all I need or should I have gotten the upland bird stamp also? The guy at the store said I did not need more but the book talks about a upland stamp. I am calling TPWD tomorrow but thought yall might know.

As far as I know, you do need the upland endorsement for turkey, regardless of the tags.

You need to get the upland bird stamp, too. You should call TPWD tomorrow, though, just to make sure.

You have to have the Upland tag. You can buy it separately at any time though for $7 and then you use the tags that came with your regular license and they will not give you new tags.

The guys at the stores never know what they are talking about and it is your responsibility to know and understand what is required as your the one that will be hunting. The GW will write you a ticket because the guy at the store is an idiot and you have to pay it not the guy at the store.

Cheaper than missing something and paying a fine.

I'm a Super Combo guy, because it makes sense and I often use all the endorsements/stamps.
Buddy of mine went with our group to South TX, Dove opener and had already bought a "year from date" fishing license earlier in the year so no Super Combo was in order. He told the kid at academy he needed every hunting license including Duck stamp and public land permit.
So what did he get? You guessed it! He got a hunting license, upland bird stamp, public land permit, Duck stamp, but no $7 migratory bird stamp. And of course we got checked by the game warden! He got a ticket that will cost from $25-$200 depending on the judges mood, according to game warden! First time I have ever been hunting with someone that got a ticket! He will never hear the end of it from us!

Another good reason to get your license from the local game warden office rather than trusting some kid at Walmart or Academy to know what you need....

The folks back at the desk at Academy usually know what is going on but the clerks at the register are often clueless. Last year, it was going nowhere with the register clerk and I finally asked her if she would let me see the screen and I would show her which tabs to punch. "Together" we went through the screens and I had what I needed. Afterward, she thanked me and explained that she had never had to do many like mine. roflmao

You are one of a kind, aeb.

I always get mine at a local gun shop. He knows what he is doing and it takes all of 2 minutes.

My wife bought me a lifetime hunting/fishing license about 28 years ago. The best present I ever received. She is awesome! Only stamp I need buy is a federal stamp for waterfowl.
