What are the major differences in the two, I'm looking at purchasing a new scope and I'm torn between the VX's and the Nikon Monarch the prices are close enough to that its all gonna be about personal preference

I have a Leupold VX-L 4.5-14x56LR that I'm very happy with. For whatever reason, it always seems to be left out of comparison charts.

I own VX-2's, VX-3's, older Monarchs and newer Monarchs. Glass wise I don't see a big difference. I hunt early, late, and at night with kill lights. Only real difference is hunting at night with lights it seems I get less glare with the Leupolds. Nikons seem to give a glare at times. I would think this has to do with the types of coatings used. Difference maker for me would be warranty. Leupold wins that battle every time.

Littlebass brought up something that I noticed about the Nikon 4-16 Monarch, the glare was quite bad with the Nikon if I looked anywhere close to the direction of morning sun or evening sun. If I looked directly west across my hay field it was a tough view for a short time in the afternoon. Then the new Nikon broke, which was a bit of a shock. I replaced it with a Leupold 6-18 VX2, and I like it a lot better. Seems clearer and better focused. That said, I still prefer my VX3 and VariX III scopes to the VX2.
I think that before I bought another Nikon, I'd try out a Vortex Viper. They get good praise on the forum, but I've never had one.
