Guys,

I've read a little about this cartridge and am very curious about it. I like the accuracy reports I've read. Good hunting cartridge?

I saw it available by Weatherby Vanguard with a synthetic stock for I want to say about $550. I'm not much for synthetic stocks but would it be worth buying and putting a different stock on it?

Thanks,

What kind did you buy? Please let me know how it performs. Do you hand load?

I have one. It is a great shooting rifle. If you don't reload you will have to count on Cabela's or Ray's for ammo as BPS, Academy, usual suspects do not carry it. Mine is a lowly Savage though..... They do make it in a wood stocked version, again, lowly Savage.....

Mine is custom from the ground up. I don't reload but somebody will. A lot of times the factory ammo is the best option if an amax bullet is good enough. I am going to start with 130 gr. For the money and time I sure hope I like it.

Are you building it? Or is someone else?

Lowly Savage? I love my Savage rifles and all of them are freaky accurate. Planning on restocking a couple after the season to make them "purdy".

I've had 2 custom rifles built on the cartridge, and my .260 is going off to get barreled in 6.5 Creedmoor this week.

It's an awesome cartridge.

Someone is building it for me. I just ordered the parts and handed them off. It started as a 260 but I changed my mind. The probably with most factory guns they aren't exactly what I want and are undersized. This one should fit.

My remarks drip with sarcasm. The Model 700 folks here seem to take great sport in looking down on savage. Personally, I love them (even if they will not fire on their own) and have several in various calibers.

I shot 3 deer with 3 shots with mine last year in Terrell county, all DRT.

Then give me your 260 brass, since you don't want it.

OP, there's really no different in performance of the .260 vs. the 6.5 Creedmore. Their DOPE charts look identical. They shoot tthe same bullet, with the same powder, and the same primer, out of a 6.5 mm barrel. There's just a slight difference in brass geometry. That being said, I shoot a .260 and am married to it. It's a hell of a long range round, and it's killed bobcat, coyote, big hog, and deer. Once my current .260 barrel is done, I'll have the next one threaded and chambered, and go again, as long as I can shoot a rifle.

The .260, 6.5 Creedmore, and 7mm-08 are the best short action cartridges in existence for long range shooting as well as medium sized game killing ability, in my opinion.

Garvey, most of it is gone, but I do have a couple hundred once fired Noslers left.

I went back to Creedmoor because of the OAL and my long [censored] hyrbids.

Oh, yeah! You told me that last weekend. My A-maxes are sitting even with the lands, and I've got a loooong ways to go before they won't fit in the mag. I think your last smith gave you some free bore on the last barrel. Tony gave me none. That's probably why at 1500 rounds on the barrel, I'm still short enough to fit in the A.I. mag.

I looked at my empty boxes of bergers, I have 2400 rounds on the barrel. It's just that the Hyrbids have a different OGIVE and are longer than AMAXes. I can still fit amxes in my mags with out any issues.

Ah ha!

I gave the hybrids an honest run in my .260 and the A-maxes flat out, out shot the hybrids. Good on me since they're less expensive, and they also make a fine killing bullet.

Yep, every bullet is different for every gun.

While hybrids aren't listed for hunting VLDs used to not be either, and they were pretty effective. I also have 140 VLDs and 130 VLD hunters.

Does anyone own the Weatherby Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmoor? Would it be worth buying it and then putting a wood stock on it?

Why not just get a Tikka or Savage, and be done with it?

Small price to pay.

You still owe me some beer, though.

With the amount of freebore they leave in the rifle, it makes me wonder how it would shoot. Maybe the Amaxes would work well, and maybe hunting bullets that are fine with lots of jump.
