UTA, that's a beautiful snake, and I don't particularly like snakes since getting bitten by a copperhead as a kid.

Cool looking snake. I guess being uncommon in Texas is relative to where in Texas you're at. I've seen a few of them on my property in Grimes county. Several little ones and the biggest just over 5'. Haven't seen any other type of rattler here.

Really cool snake for sure. It's been my (limited) experience that they are really not that aggressive. Here is a picture of one I came across back in June.

I'm glad that someone can do that - I'd have to just pass by it - unless it was too close to the house. I like snakes, so I've tried to learn to ID them because I do appreciate their function in the natural balance of things.

However, Grandkids, nieces and nephews will not be endangered. Some snakes are welcomed and become great teaching opportunities. Certain others snakes up close to the house are not treated the same. (Not that I would ever kill a protected species)

Sorry; found the answer.

"Today, every state inhabited by timber rattlesnakes has laws protecting the species, including Texas. In Texas, it is listed as a threatened species. This means that people cannot take, transport, have in their possession or sell timber rattlesnakes."

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another.

Cool pic. And thanks for not being a Neanderthal and killing it just because it's a snake.

I've encountered (venomous species) western diamondbacks, copperheads, cottonmouths, and one coral snake in, but no timber rattlers yet. The diamondbacks have always made me aware of their presence if I didn't see them before they saw me. Never killed a snake before. Never saw the need to.
