Looking for a semi auto rifle in .308, box magazines, capacity of at least 20. What are your recommendations? Lets keep the price below $1500.

DPMS Lr 308 Our local shop has one with 24" stainless fluted barrel. $1150 I have the same gun just not fluted. Mine shoots very well.

For $1500 budget I guess Id be looking at a DPMS or similar. But Id save up a bit more for a LWRC, Larue, KAC, or similar.

I was actually about to post a Springfield M1 Socom. I shot a M1 socom and it was pure awesome, I'm sure any M1 will be bad [censored] of a shot. I haven't read much about an FNAR(?) or shot one so I can't really help you with that one.
I wasn't too certain what semi-auto you were looking for so I put the DPMS up.

Several battle rifles besides AR's come to mind. HK91, Cetme, FAL, Galil, M1A. Then you also have the Ruskie variants like the Vepr or Saiga in .308.

The only experiences I have is with my AR-10. I have never had any type of feed or fire issue. I've run everything from TulAmmo to hand-loaded 168gr SP. My rifle is a completely stock A4 with a 20" barrel. It is at least as accurate as I am, and probably more so. Although it is a bit heavy, it handles very well. The last time I looked, they were just under $1500.

I've been looking and comtemplating as well. I had a Remington r-25 in .308 but traded it before I ever shot it. It was $1407 after tax at academy during the frenzy. Lately, I've done more research and I can think of two ways to go. Either get the DMPS for around 1k and go from there, get the CMMG MK3 for around 1800 and good to go GS trigger, fortis rev rail, acs-l stock, etc. OR. Get one of these red-x uppers and a bcg/ch, then get a complete lower, either cmmg or dmps and have a nice 20" uppered 308 for around 1k. http://shop.redxarms.com/308-PARTS_c16.htm

For a semi auto rifle I think it really depends on what you are wanting to do with it.
FAL's have a tendency to start stringing after they warm up a little.
Cetme's and HK91's can be a little picky on their ammo with FTE's.
AR10's are a pretty good choice and have lots of upgrade options
Nothing wrong with any of the above Battle rifles as I have fired and owned all of the above and like each one.
Saiga .308's could be accurized I suppose as well as VEPR's but most of the VEPR's are single stack 10 rounders I believe
If you just want to go out and blast some rounds down range any of the above are great choices.
AR 10's and FN AR 308 would be good for target shooting
This is by no means a rag on any of the above rifles as like I said I've owned and shot most of the above.
"What do you do?" I work for an airline. "Wow are you a pilot" No I'm an aircraft inspector, they said I was too talented to sit and flip switches all day.

For $1500 budget I guess Id be looking at a DPMS or similar. But Id save up a bit more for a LWRC, Larue, KAC, or similar. You're looking at between $3300 and $4000 for a larue plus a two year wait FYI. It's about the same for a GAP 10. Look at JP Enterprises if you're looking at something along those lines as well. I would actually swap my GAP-10 for one of those if it came along. KAC will run you $4500. For $1500 I would get a dpms or shop used until you find a steal on something better. If you buy cheap though, chances are you'll later want to sell it for something nicer. Another real good one in that $1500 price range is a Remington R25.

After looking at various rifles, I think Im going to start looking at a Springfield M1A. I like the Garand action and box magazines. Plus the cost of the factory mags is about half of the FNAR mags. I like the AR 10 platform but with the manufacturers would get their lowers compatible. Plus the M1A/M14 have been in service for a long time and parts are available.

I don't know if you ever plan on putting a suppressor on it but the M1A/M14 is a bad host, if you're not then its a great weapon.
I personally run an FNAR and really like it.

Saiga 308 or Vepr 308. That is if you definitely want .308. magazines are double stacked. If you dont mind extra weight, get one with long barrel. Available in 20+ bbl lenghts.

What the poster above me said.
I would get a VEPR 308 from centerfire for 729, add side rail MI mount for 100, then a scope. Can be there for 1k ish. Or a DPMS 308 for 1k.
The 2k-3k 308 guns and not worth it in my opinion and most are heavy pigs. My 308 AR is 8 pounds.

Its a bad host because like most piston guns it vents gas prior to hitting the barrel. Terrible for a can, not hardly any quieter. Its like suppressing an AK. Edit: Very few are still in use in the mil. The SR25 has replaced them, the only ones still being used are ones that have been refurbed and are about 40 years old. I don't know if you ever plan on putting a suppressor on it but the M1A/M14 is a bad host, if you're not then its a great weapon.

If yours has a suppressor setting then its good . Guns like a sig 556 don't have a suppressor setting and are loud as heck. Its a bad host because like most piston guns it vents gas prior to hitting the barrel. Terrible for a can, not hardly any quieter. Its like suppressing an AK. I don't know if you ever plan on putting a suppressor on it but the M1A/M14 is a bad host, if you're not then its a great weapon.

I've been looking at your build anyway thinking of selling my POF and having a custom lighter weight DI 308 built. That POF is a pig LOL.

even with the season right around the corner, there are lots of bar's and remington 742's/four/7400's and winchester 100's to be had. the benelli is nice, but i don't think they offer a .308 and it's pricey.
