It doesn't matter a lot of us hunters don't have the extra funds for a dove lease, the public lands east of dallas, south of dallas, north and west will be crowded. Well they might not be crowded but will have a hunter in every direction if the field. It's opening day in texas and on a weekend, it's going to be busy.

This thread has me discouraged. I've been scouting the public fields around Greenville for a month and now I hear that it will be elbow to elbow. I'm not even gonna chance it on opening day now.

That's where I was looking too...this being my first season, I'd like to have a good experience, but it sounds like I may skip out on opening weekend.

Don't get too discouraged and don't overlook the fields your not seeing a ton of birds in, they are going to scatter once they start getting shot at....

Opening weekend isn't that bad. It's crowded at most places in the DFW area, but it's do able. Just walk a little farther to get away from everyone. 90% of people will hunt within 200 yards of where they park. There are lots of public fields that you have to walk much further.

i get shot peppered every year, or get in yelling matches with guys that show up at 10 past daylight and set up 50 feet away. like some have mentioned, there are good spots in places, but they usually require much more pre-season work and more walking. to whomever mentioned the West of Denton area, there is only 1 field left in the public book and there will be over 100 trucks there, i guarantee it. i wish TPWD were doing a better job of managing the number of leased fields for my $48.

if you can hunt the season for $175 go for it. You can only hunt 2 maybe 3 days for that on a day lease. Good luck to ya where ever you may be hunting
