i can hear it now...ya'll shoulda been here last week or well, can you come back next weekend... maybe some "northern" birds will come down...

I live in Abilene, we didn't get enough rain to keep him out of the field for long, I got less than an inch. He should be able to shred by this weekend and for sure next week, if we don't get more rain by then.

I hope you have a good hunt, but we need the rain too bad to want it to stop.

That is how it is every year. The weather will change and run them out. Last year we sat on the porch of the cabin in the evening watching hundreds pour into the field we were going to hunt. The next day, nada, zip, nothing at all, gone. Dove do that, they migrate for food, weather and one other thing.

Always a aug 28th or 29th storm that changes the game. Except last year it just stayed dry

Shouldn't be a problem. We've got around 25 fields of sunflowers and were not starting till next Monday anyways. Wouldn't worry bout it.

From a moisture standpoint things are looking much better. Got bout the same nimber of fields. However ill take a yr like the last one anytime. Our hunters still managed around 18k birds last yr. lol!

Recent rains really helped the fields come along.

Holler when your out and ill make sure to come say hi! Ill be out running around somewhere. We're gonna be at trophy hunters this weekend and then get the tractors running next week.

We've had some rain up that way but a little wind and sunshine will dry it up quick.

I would make sure your dove guide is not throwing in the towel to early or maybe just trying to save a few bucks on fuel and labor.

Some rain this morning but as dry as it is here in Breckenridge/Abilene area he'll have time. I've received 1" of rain so far and I start my fields next week. It will be dry enough to mow them, ground is sucking it up.

But,,this will probably push a few birds south...

We would be damn happy down here to get 1/2 of the rain ya'll getting up there. Seems like this area is under the dome. Rain we did get on Wednesday was a 5 minute burst but did drop temps 20 degrees for a while. Will be waiting here for those northern birds. Have a good dove day. 16 days to go

Heck our place north of Abilene needs water bad. I don't care about birds. I'd rather have full tanks.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

You guys don't worry. You got 2 weeks before season and the ground soaked everything up over night I was driving thru middle of our fields 2 days after a 3 inch rain and had dirt flying up.

The sky isn't falling yet

I have yet to meet Jerry. I am just glad to be dove hunting this year. As soon as he send directions to the fields I will go have a look and let you know how they look.
