Those boys up in Canada feed Alfalfa, but then again their deer are the size of horses.

We set a bale of alfalfa out at a friends place in Brown county a couple of years ago. Something ate it and there are no cattle on the place!

I had a place that was full of oak trees. The deer wouldnt come to the feeders nor come out in the open, so I bought a bale of alfalfa and put a flake in each feeder pen. I started seeing deer then.

I carry a flake of it out once in a while, and the deer or the pigs one eat it. It disapears, not a single twig left behind. Dont opt for the pellets, stick with something they can chew and swollow, i had the pellets and dang near lost my horse feeding them to her. Seems the pellets need to be soaked and moistened before a horse can swollow them without hackin on em. If you have ever had the dry heaves, thats what it looked like she was doin. Cant imagine what it would do to a deer. Skinner

I have seen tons of deer eat peanut plants (before they were harvsted), But havent tried peanut hay. One time we had a roundbail set out for some goats and they killed it. Only problem, it gave them the squirts and dang near killed em.. I think it has a whole lot of protein in it.

Whitetail and Axis both love alfalfa hay. We plan on putting some out this year.
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

deer will come to alfalfa once the frost has killed the fresh growth, imo and experience.
a deer's stomach is not like a cow, and therefore does not digest hay, grass the same. they will browse thru hay, looking for OTHER THINGS in the hay, but usually will not eat the hay; UNLESS STARVING.

peanut hay, the upper portion of the peanut plant, can be fed to livestock) ... alfalfa...southwest Asian perennial herb (Medicago sativa) having compound leaves with three leaflets and clusters of usually blue-violet flowers. It is widely cultivated as a pasture and hay crop.
