Anyone use a portable TV in the blind? I was thinking it could be a good way to pass the time.
If so, what's a good model and how well does it work with all this newfangled HD technology and such?

One of the best things about getting out to hunt is leaving the technology behind. No tv, phone, radio, games, nada... Love it that way. I will have the phone but for emergency only but usually doesn't work where I go but its good for pics and time.

Do portable TVs still work? I thought that you needed some kind of box now just to get regular network and local channels.

I didn't know if the new ones had a built in "HD box" so to speak. On another note, I get that some of you don't agree with "things" in the stand with you. But I'm the one hunting, not you (no offense). Besides if it can buy me a few more hours in the stand when nothing seems to be around then it did what it was supposed to do.

Since I hunt out of our cabin's bedroom window, I have a full screen TV right there. If you watch much TV you will miss a lot of action, I have that problem solved, by letting my granddaughter or grandson watch the wheat field and feeder area.

Did it one day in 93. Was up about 20 feet in a tree stand in Eastland, with the antenna hanging out the side, just watched the NFL playoffs. You know the one where Houston blew a 4 TD lead and lost! Any ways, hadn't seen anything all season and just as the game ended and right b4 dusk,oh and it was the last day of the season, a doe walked out and I got her. Turnsed out to be a button buck. Yea, you might miss something. Now I just listen to radio in one ear to help keep me in the stand longer.

TV would not work in my area if I wanted to watch it. If I want to watch TV I stay at the house. The only thing I take is my cell phone and it is only for incoming calls if I have a signal, no texting or internet. I go hunting to enjoy the outdoors and tune out the rest of the world. No offense but if you need a TV to enjoy the outdoor experience more, then I would take up something other than hunting that would satisfy that need.

My last lease was south of Hebbronville. Couldn't get even a little bit of cell service. I can't imagine how bad the TV reception might be.

If I were going to take something to the blind other than my Iphone, it would be an ipad or other tablet. Maybe a small netbook. I get pod casts or tv/movies on the ipad wnd use that as my tv while at camp, so I would assume that it would be just as good i the blind. You can put a few games on it as well.

I use to, before digital! Had one of those hand size things I would hang on the wall. Didn't use it much cause I couldn't stay awake long enough to watch it. Started listening to ball games on a pocket size radio with an ear bud. Do carry a paperback book with me...

I do not even take my phone with me. There is no reception in all but 2 tripods on our lease. I had to buy a special antenna just to get TV in camp. No way we would get a signal on a protable TV in any blind.

There are a few small screen battery operated digital TV's available but the main problem probably would be the lack of reception out on the lease. Might need an antenna.

A TV in the blind. This absolutely blows my mind. I turn my cell phone off 20 miles before the lease and it doesn't get turned back on until I am 20 miles away from the lease. On the days when absolutely nothing is moving I still love being out there and watching "nothing" so much more that any TV showed ever taped. Guess that is just me though. Good luck with your shows.

Thanks to all that answered my question. Census is that reception would be too weak, I kinda thought so but didn't know for sure. As to all others who wanted to rant on about whatever, congrats for wasting your time as I didn't read your posts but long enough to realize that there was no info there I needed.
