My target for this year, even though stxranchman says he's only 12 inches in spread.

How old do yall think he is? I'm guessing the buck next to him at 2.

Looks mature to me and definitely wider than 12.

Buck is older, brisket and neck meet, barreled belly. I'll say 5.5 and 15.5" outside..

I believe I said "I could not go more than 12-12.5" inside right now in velvet". Easy answer in the picture standing beside your feeder. Measure the small funnel under your feeder that has the spinner/timer mounted to it. Then use the math to see how wide he is. If it is 12" you got a legal buck if it is not then he might not make it. I hope he makes it.

I think the deer is standing a little closer to the cam than the feeder...I measured the feeder width (it is 54 inches wide according to web) and just taking a similar measurement of the deer puts him at over 27 inches wide. We all know that isn't the case. So I don't think measuring something in the pic will work in this case due to relative proximity to the camera.

I think the deer is standing a little closer to the cam than the feeder...I measured the feeder width (it is 56 inches wide according to web) and just taking a similar measurement of the deer puts him at over 27 inches wide. We all know that isn't the case. So I don't think measuring something in the pic will work in this case due to relative proximity to the camera.

Not sure what you are measuring but I am talked the part that the top of the control unit is mounted to on the bottom of the feeder. I have done it a lot of times and it is pretty close. I will usually hang a board painted white with black marks at every 1". Then take a business card and hold it up the computer screen and mark the inside spread on the buck. Then hold it over to the "ruler".

I know exactly what you are talking about, but since I don't know that measurement now, I figured I would measure something I could find out, and that feeder is supposed to be 54 x 54 x 76. So maybe the 54 includes the entire width of the leg posts? Let me do that quickly...that math puts him at around 15.8 inches wide inside. Still don't think that is close, but closer than my original math (I guess I don't know dimensions of feeders and where they get the dimension from).

So, I still think there is some proximity variance in your idea, he looks to be standing a little more in front of the feeder, and a small variation in that distance is going to give or take an inch or several, and this buck may not be able to give an inch.

I hope he is 15" inside but knowing first hand how small bodied those deer are in that area I will disagree. He is a very mature buck also. You could also measure the white painted on this camera side of the top of the far left Tpost and use it as a ruler.

I think that would be a little closer, and if it were my place I would try my darndest to get the best idea before shooting...but since it isn't my place, I will defer to your judgement about body size and stick with you that he probably isn't 15...but he is an old deer who at least appears to make ARs at this point.

Looks older than 5. I'm guessing he's in the 6-7 range.

As far as AR's, I would wait until you see him for yourself and then make the call. Camera pics can be deceiving.

Good mature buck though.

I would say probably 5 yrs old but to close to call on the width. I don't know if he'll make 13 inches.

I don't think he's 15 inches inside. I also don't think there's anyway in hell he's not 13.

The point of this post wasn't to rib stxranchman, it was...

No wait, it was.

Just kidding.

The point was that I was starting to have "let him walk for the better good" thoughts thinking he was 4. Then I got some more recent pics and have him right next to this other buck, and I think he's definitely older than 4.

So game on, that fool gettin' blasted on if I see him.

Also, stxranchman and I have a bet going. If he's larger than 13.5 inches inside, I get to shoot the largest deer at his place next year. If he's smaller, he gets to shoot the largest coyote at mine.

Having second thought now? grin Waffling down to 13.5 now are we from 14? Measure that Tpost top and we will see if you are right or not.

We'll see if I'm right when I drop him.

Got over 600 pics of him in 10 days, so he's currently hanging around pretty consistently. When do you think the rut starts out here? I know early, but I'm hoping not Oct 1st early.
