I don't really know where to put this, so figured this was a good of place as any.. I'm wanting to get ammo cans for all my calibers. I have 2 30cal cans now that hold my 5.56, but need lots more and would probably be easier to put my rifle and shotgun cals in 50cal boxes. Does anyone know where I can find them on the cheap?

I've looked at some of the surplus stores up here, but can't really find any. Found 20 50cal cans yesterday, but he wanted $20 per can. Not going to pay that much, I'll just get the dry boxes from Academy or Cabelas. Although would much rather have the metal GI cans.

Thanks for your help.

PS do not say go to CTD..

Thanks guys, I was trying to stay away from online sales because of the shipping will be high. After breaking down the price+shipping on SGAmmo the 12 pack of 50cal cans comes out to a little under $14 per box which really isn't that bad. Think I'll try getting a buddy to go halves with me.

If you get to Abilene check with Taylors Army Surplus on North First, they used to have decent prices on ammo cans. Not sure on prices now because it has been a few years since I have bought any. Here is the phone number, you might call and ask them for info on bulk pricing. (325) 672-2868

I could sell you some, but they would be extremely expensive since the are full. clap

how many do you need? Im not sure if it would help you any but I have 2 that you can have if you ever get down towards the metromess. I will have to check but I am pretty sure I have a couple. Or next time I make it up to VA I can bring them if you want.

I find for storing shotgun shells the 20mm cans are great for home use. I don't move it much, I fill my Bob Allen range bag from it, then refill when it gets low.

Heck yea that would be awesome, if I get down to the DFW area anytime soon I'll let you know, but for sure if you come up to VA shoot me a PM and I'll meet you down there. Really appreciate that.

I was looking at the 20mm cans they seem pretty dang big, which wouldn't really matter unless I had to move it often.

Two years ago they were 5.99 go figure

Well, I called and talked with one our local surplus stores (same one that wanted $20 per 50cal can) and he said that they are getting hard to find. Instead of them shipping them back they are digging holes in Iraq and Afgan and just burying them. So looks like supply is drying up. Of course this was his justification of his price, so IDK if this is true or not.

Sounds like another waste of taxpayer money to me, at least they could send them back and get something for them, but then I'm sure they don't want us to have them!! sounds about right.

My pleasure, no point in letting them sit around collecting dust. I might try and make it up to VA this weekend. I will let you know.

That's what I was finding also. If you break it down its around $18 per can, but they are brand new manufactured by Blackhawk. That's cheaper than the surplus stores around here, but still I don't need 12 or really even need 6 or I'd split an order with you.

I don't really like GM so I don't frequent it very often. I know Cabelas and Academy have the dry boxes, but they are plastic and don't seem very durable. Cabelas has metal cans, but you normally have to pay a premium for the ammo that comes inside LOL. Even then some of those are plastic. I was actually in my grandpa's shop and found 6 5.56 ball ammo cans that were empty just sitting there. I asked him if he wanted to sell them if he wasn't using them, and he said they belonged to my cousin. So called him and doesn't even remember them, he is in Baltimore at the moment and said he would let me know when he got back to town and could look at them.

I was at Omahas this morning and regular 50cal is $15 and the tall 50cal is $17. The tall is twice the height...same width.

30 cal can were $9

The GI cans I have seen at academy and cabelas are $20
