OK. Last question and I'm gonna shut this down until next off season. Thanks very much for all those that participated honestly, and gave feedback and suggestions!!
------------

It's that last day of the season on a lease you won't have access too anymore. It's 5 minutes past legal shooting hours. The huge 12 pt you've been targeting for 2 years finally steps out and gives you a clear shot. No one is around to hear the rifles report... would you do it?

And as always, your answer is anonymous.

Simple Yes or No answer here.....

If I can see the buck clearly enough to determine that it is indeed the 12 pt'er I've been chasing all season...and make the shot cleanly easily ...he's down and mine.

Any hesitation or 2nd guessing on my part has more to do with satisfying my self imposed visual & harvest requirements than a minute or two one way or the other no matter what time of day it is. ...and NO I've never hunted the "Long Pasture" either, except for poachers coming off one of my lease's ... BTDT camera in hand.

OBTW Ask me sometime how I know a 1/2ton Chevy can fly several feet off the ground just south of the Santa Anna High School & why I was laughing so hard I could not see well enough to take the shot they thought was coming their way after I allowed my self to be skylighted in a tower blind in the middle of a 1000 acre lease during mid day & middle of the week.
Cheers

On a full moon with a frost on the ground you can see good enough to judge bucks.

I can honestly say that I have never looked to see if it was legal shooting time for deer

U get thirty minutes befor sunset and thirty after. By that time it is usually to dark to see anyway so I leave.

But if I could see because he was close and I had a good scope and the moon was already out and bright... Then ya dead deer

2 weeks left in the season had a a 10 that I hunted for 3 seasons, let him walk because it was after legal shooting time. Sometimes regret it but not often, really glad I stayed legal on him even though it was the last time I ever saw him.

He was found in the creek on the next property dead in the creek, scored 167

Unlike the scenario in this thread though I still hunt the lease but would let him walk

Got to say no. To many times the Game Warden has been on the county road out side the gate waiting.

Same here. If I can identify my target, obviously it's safe. Isn't safety the reason behind the law? Besides, I'm otherwise a law abiding citizen, and don't look at the sunrise -sunset times or adhere to them. If I can see what I'm shooting at, I'm safe.

The plot thickens. Monday evening I was walking back from an evening sit. It was a few minutes after legal shooting light for WT. Obviously, I wasn't hunting for them, but was looking for a Hog or Varmint. As I got closer to camp I heard an oink. I raised my gun and spotted a big pig broadside. I shot him. I could see it was a pig before I shot, so what's the difference? You can shoot pigs after dark. Is safety the real reason behind the 30 minutes after sunset rule?...I think not.
