The comment about the $2.00 per hour was about right, minimum wage was still $1.75 back then.

Hunters leave food out before the season. Once deer get used to it, hunters can shoot them without much effort. I never learned this concept! Great photos!

#8 is Morgan's Point in Baytown. You can see what's left of the old causeway that used to connect it to La Porte. Those derricks aren't there anymore either...all knocked down by Hurricane Alicia in 1983.

"Deer hunters drink and play poker while waiting for deer"
Yeah, that's what they were doing. Just waiting for the deer to walk right up on them and surrender.

Awesome but I don't like the affection pics, kinda rude to just take a pic and post it. Or the pot pic. I mean come on! And the caption for deer camp was funny. But I liked everything else.

Really enjoyed those pics and the captions. Life was certainly different back then...and deer hunting must have been much easier..

Being born in 1972 it looks like I missed the fun I was born in '71. There were a lot of things dreadful about the 70s though; economics, politics, fashion, cars (post 1972). There was a lot of really good music though.

Nice pics but having been around here since 1954, they just look like normal everyday pics to me. Who would have ever thought that the 70s would be "back in the day"?

I'm from Leakey, wasn't born till 84 but I rember when the drug store used to look just like that back in the late 80's and early 90's. I miss that place. It's a damn tourist coffee shop now, a shame if you ask me.
