I assumed everyone carried more than 1 or 2...

This is what I always pack when heading to the lease...I need help for sure...

270 WSM (primary deer gun)
257 Roberts (back up)
204 Ruger (varmit)
16ga 1100 (for quail or dove if the second split is on)
12 ga 1187 (varmit or if I get an itch for a big tom ambush)
45 auto

Oh yea...and my sons Red Rider...

Forever, I always took 2 rifles with me on my hunting trips. Over the last 5 years or so, I switched to taking one rifle and one backup scope/w/rings already sighted for my gun. All of my rifles (20+) wear Weaver-style bases and my scopes wear compatible rings.

If needed, I can swap scopes, fire a sighting shot or two, and get back to hunting. I have found, like Layne Simpson, Bob Hagel, and Clay Harvey, that Weaver-style bases and rings are invariably repeatable, and a hunter can confidently swap scopes on his rig and be somewhat assured that the gun will still shoot as before. You should still verify that the rifle still shoots where the scope is looking.

I always bring two. Getting away is so hard these days, I can't see bring one gun and having the trip ruined because of a unforseen malfunction.

Granted, I make sure my stuff works before I go, it will be the day I don't bring a backup that something will happe.

Always at least 2 depending on destination. THE primary deer shooter and a choice, or couple choices, for other opportunities. in addition to THE primary deer shooter, my distance shooter, scoped for and sighted in at a 300 yards zero, instead of the 100/150 yard zero as THE primary deer shooter is, for 30 plus years has been a 300WMag, then the other choices run to a scoped 22lr for a plinker/squirrel gun and a 12 or 20 guage or both for short range turkey, ducks or quail. Been known to hunt cottontails with my 38Spl snubby for grins and giggles too for fast sporting fun up close.

I've some more choices to make nowdays as I've added a 6.5x55 Tikka T3 to the mix in THE primary deer shooter category instead of my life long use of a 257Rbts or a 270 & still got a NIB 270 T3 in reserve, and a 9.3x62 Mauser CZ 550 using either 250 and 270 grain bullets for a hog gun that is easy enough on meat damage for use on a 75 lb Texas WTail doe and still has decent bullet drop ranging out to about 250-300 yards with bunches less kick than the 300Mag.

Usually just one if I'm just going out to the lease. Maybe if on a guided pay hunt I would bring more than one.

I have always taken my 30-06, 300 ultra mag, and 22 with me. Sometimes I take my 243, 12 gauge, and this year my 270 WSM will be in the mix on more than one occasion and will probably be my main gun. This year the lineup will probably be 270 WSM, 30-06, 300 RUM, and 22, and ofcourse my Taurus PT140 on my hip as always.
