I need a carrier for my bow. Can anyone suggest why I would want a bag vs a hard case for storage? What would you start with. Any recommendations on brands would be appreciated.

Get a hard case. It may be a bit more bulkier but it will protect your bow and gear better. For instance in the back of the truck bouncing around on dirt roads getting to your spot, probably with a bunch of other stuff in your pickup box. Packing all your whatever gear for a travel destination. And when your digging for your other gear in your man cave.

X2 on not enough protection.
Hard case only, also water proof if you have it in the back of the truck

I have been using a soft case for a while and it has never seen the bed of my truck. With that said, i will probably get a hard case next time.

Soft case. Hard case or no it's gonna be IN the truck not in the bed. It fills my needs.

When I first started out bow hunting I had a soft case. I quickly realized the soft case was not what I needed to protect my bow and purchased a hard case. I have used many hard cases over the years and finely settled on an SKB case. If you are ever thinking of airline travel I would strongly recommend a higher end hard case. I use this SKB hard case and really love it. http://www.basspro.com/SKBCases-Parallel-Limb-Bow-Case/product/95168/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

Hard case all day and a quality one too. Not some cheap junk you can buy at Academy. I have well over $2000 in my bow. I am not going to put it in a $60 case.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

And like P&Y stated...SKB are one of the best around.

I strap my SKB onto the back of my 4 wheeler when I go ti the stand. Don't want any problems to happen during the ride.

I have a hard case as well, but I don't have any fancy 4 wheeler to ride to my stand in I throw it in the back of my truck on the way back and forth to my hunting area.

Hard Case - Hands Down - buy a Hard Case. SKB is the best...However, Plano started making an upper line that is also very very good and less expensive.

Another hard case fan here, just too much time and money invested. I have a Plano case that does its job. I have a bed mat in the back of my truck and will usually put a full ice chest next to it to make sure it wont slide around, same as a scoped rifle. A hard case in an empty slick truck bed is probably not a good idea...

I have my bow in a sling over my back when I walk or ride my ATV. If I were to fly with it I would have a hard case. I've looked at the SKB cases. I would go that direction if I ever go that direction.

I would go that direction if I ever go that direction. Sounds philosophical...

I always use a hard case also. If I'm going to take the time to put my bow in a case I want it to offer as much protection as possible. I have been looking at those skb cases the last couple days, and may pull the trigger on one. I like the foam in this one http://www.skbcases.com/sports/sku.php?cat=12&pid=13
