What would be y'all's best recommendation for food for a lab pup that is 8 weeks old, I currently have her on purina puppy chow and doesn't seem like it very much. Thanks

If it flys it dies

Whatever you do do not feed them a food that is high protein when they are a puppy. It can be very hard on their kidneys. I know from personal experience.

I have been using Purina One Puppy Chow on my last two pups with no issues! As adults I feed Purina One chicken and rice with very good results.

Same here, but after reading up a little I will be changing this. The #1 ingredient is brewers rice, a byproduct of regular rice. Brewers rice is low in nutritional value and heavy in carbs. Chicken is listed as the #1 ingredient but after the moisture is removed to make it kibble it falls nearly to the bottom by finished weight. It is rated as one of the worst dog foods out there...trust me, i was surprised by this. I thought I was feeding my dogs a decent quality dog food. With the monetary and time commitment most make to having a good retriever, buying the best dog food only makes sense. After reviewing some of the best foods out there I realized that they are not all expensive and a lot of the expensive ones are crap. Also, the higher actual meat content in the food, the less you have to feed them...so it offsets the actual cost. If it gets me an extra 3-4 years out of a retriever, I cant go wrong.

I dunno yet...going to have to get a small bag of something and try it out. I will find good alternatives but they have to eat it. Something good that they will wolf down. I feed a lot of fat scrap in the winter(in the past) so I don't have to supplement during season. Baring getting hurt, Bo will be with me 3-5 days a week hunting. I train him 20-30min every morning so I feel he will be in good shape.

I fed my lab Purina One Large Breed Puppy, Adult, and the Senior until I read what was actually in the food. He didn't seem to have any issues with the Purina, but I didn't want to keep knowingly feeding him junk.

So, I started buying the Diamond (or 4Health) from Tractor Supply. Both are great food with quality products. The Dog Food Analysis page gives both of them great reviews. I believe both foods are made by Diamond, but 4Health is the Tractor Supply brand. Also, its only $31.99 for a 40 lb bag.

That's a great price for what I've been looking at, thanks.

I feed taste of the wild to my lab and he is getting tired of it. I am switching to acana now to try it out.
