I shot an arrow through a card board box last night and tore up the fletchings pretty bad. What is the best way to fix this---or do I just scrap a brand new carbon arrow????

Don't scrap it!! Get a fletching jig and fix it. If you're going to shoot a bow much, you'll end up buying one eventually anyway.

I've never used the blitzenberger myself. It looks like a great piece of equipment. I use a bohning jig, and get good results with it.

How does one remove the old fletchings without damaging the arrow? I think the old ones are super-glued on.

After removing the old ones, do I just use the jig to align the new fletchings, and then glue them on? Seems easy enough.

Anybody know if Academy sells a jig? I will go there on my lunch break to see if they have what I need.

They sell jigs that will do the job. Use a fletching stripper to get the old ones off. Make sure you get it smooth. I even use a light sandpaper after scraping.

For glue I use lok tite super glue gel.

I went to Academy on my lunch break and bought new fletchings, and some glue specifically made for fletching attachment. Academy either did not have the jigs, or I could not find them on the archery aisle. I asked the guy that worked there and he was not sure what it was I wanted and just told me to look for it on that aisle. I did not see one.

Anyway, at least I have most of the raw components to get started with. I may run by Gander Mountain this evening to see if they have a jig, and this "fletching stripper" tool mentioned above.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I know the Academy in mesquite has them. But if your running by a Ganger Mountain on your way home, your no where near Mesquite. GM should have a jig. A fletching stripper is probably a great tool to have. And one that's on my need list. But a razor knife will get the big stuff off, then I use 400 grit sandpaper to smooth the shaft even more. Then clean the shaft with laquer thinner before applying the new fletchings.

To make it really easy, see if GM has any arrow wraps while your there. They are basically a sticker that wraps around the arrow, then your fletching glue onto the sticker. Then you don't risk damaging a shaft due to several sessions of the above mentioned torture it requires to fletch a raw shaft. You just soak it in alcohol to soften the glue, remove the sticker (with the old glue and battered fletchings on it), clean off any remaining glue, and start over.

u dont need a fletching stripper.....just use a sharp knife or razorblade. cut the bulk of the fletching off then run the knife over the excess over and over real fast till most is gone. then lightly sand it with some fine sandpaper to smooth it.

also the best cheapest glue u can use is super glue gel.

Are ya'll shooting helical, offset, or straight? I have 3" vanes, offset left and they are hitting my rest (NAP capture). If I switch to 2" Blazer vanes would there be that much difference?

+1 wraps are great. when you fletch as many arrows as I do a week, wraps are a huge timesaver.

try the 2" vanes, you may get a lil different flight, but should be somewhat similar. I switched to 2" vanes and they do great
