A coworker gave me basically a full reloading setup that was his grandfathers. He wanted to see it used, rather than sit in his garage. There were also some components. How long are primers good for? There are some unknown age CCI BR2 and Federal 210M in the lot. The packaging looks dated, but primers "look" new and shiny. Good to go?

In the first pic, what is the horseshoe shaped piece for? It looks like a stand, but I can't figure out what for!

Also, any idea what is in the last two pics? The wooden box has multiples of each. The far right looks like a cleaning setup similar to a boresnake. No idea about the other item. It unscrews and that pin is inside.

The "horseshoe" piece catches the primers after you de-prime the case. It goes around the body of the press.

There is a grey one in this pic

The horse shoe shaped piece is a primer catcher. It mounts around the press, and catches your spent primers during sizing, so they don't get on the floor. I have some primers from the late 60's early 70's I used a few years ago for my personal 270 Win ammo, and it shot very consistant. They should be fine. The last 2, not sure.
You have a good start for a reloading kit now. The only thing I see missing that would be very helpful is a powder trickler. Enjoy it!

Looks like with a little cleaning, you'll be ready to go in short time. Check out the stickies at the top of the section. Some guys have spent some time putting good info in those.

Thanks JBD. I think I've read them 10 times already waiting for the day! I've been using my Sgt's gear and he has been teaching me. This will save the hour drive each way.

Last pics are an oiler and bore cleaner for an M1. They were designed to fit inside the buttstock.

Thanks guys! There are several in that wooden box. Interesting what people keep sometimes!

^^this^^

That's a good friend, and he's right that it shouldn't just sit in storage. That stuff is built to last for generations. I'm glad it's getting put to work.

What a deal! I had to spend a bunch of my wife's shoe shopping money to get my setup!
