Read two articles about it this week, Can you get ammo? Looks like a neat rimfire. Keep us posted.

Looked at one this weekend with intent to buy. But when I felt how cheap and flexy the stock was. I was supprised. But thought no big deal. There will be aftermarket. So I asked for the bolt so I can cycle the action. I cycled it a few times and decided it was not for me. Way too rough and harsh. I lime the caliber. Guess I'll have to wait for a higher quality gun the barrel is also a really small contour. And the gun was a mess. Grease and oil all over and inside everyone I loooked at not what I expected from a new gun from savage

Hmmm... I don't like this. I have a savage 111. I really like it. If the gun is what you say it is, I'm not sure I want it....

To answer the ammo question. I should be able to buy at least 5 boxes if I want to.

I want a 17wsm, but I am not found of the synthetic stock on the new Savages. I believe the only other gun that accepts this caliber at this time is a Browning highwall, and they are about 1500$.

I find it very odd that winchester would develop the ammo and
only make one high dollar rifle that is chambered for it.

I am afraid that the WSM will die if no other rifles
available.

Would love to see a semi-auto version.

I Like the caliber, the rifle is goofy looking, starting with the bolt handle and drifting downhill from there. I think if Savage builds this in a nicer package, still with the accutrigger, it would be VERY interesting

Ammo will be the hold up.

I purchased one today.
The stock is flimsy and cheap. But I don't consider a $350 dollar gun a high end smooth as silk kind of gun. I am happy with it after shooting a few rounds today. It is very consistent. I only got around 20 rounds today but very happy with the performance.

Oh they'll catch up when everyone complains enough. I'd loooove to see a CZ 527 in 17wsm. Now THAT would be awesome

A Savage Tupperware stock? Yeah they can be pretty crappy. If it's sticky to cycle, maybe some lapping compound, on the lugs, will help after it's all cleaned out?

Mine isn't too sticky to cycle. The stock is poor quality. I can make it flex at the grip easily.

Does a rimfire necessarily need a killer stock?

No sir. That's why I am still very pleased with it overall.

Not necessarily, but free-floating is still pretty important. Gotta have stiffness and/ or clearance to achieve that.

Why not go with a .17 HMR? Easily available and some great options in rifles. If you are shooting under 175 yards the .17 HMR is great. If you are shooting over that distance then a 17 grain bullet in a rimfire isn't the best choice no matter how fast it's moving. Might as well get a .204 and have some weight in the bullet.

I had the chance to shoot a CZ 527 in 2044 the other day. I fell in love right then.

I am looking forward to hearing some reports on the .17WSM. I absolutely love my Savage .17HMR, though I did just order a new stock today. After the tiniest of drops from my truck seat and while in a soft case, the synthetic stock snapped at the rear of the receiver and the trigger guard is all that is holding it together.

So far I have dropped a dozen squirrels, three coyotes, a half dozen hogs, and a bunch of skunks with the HMR. Another 4-500 fps with a little heavier pill ought to be even better.

My thoughts as well. I personally have little or no desire to purchase the .17 WSM. I already have a .17 HMR....and if that doesn't do the job well enough, I simply step up to my .223 Rem shooting 40 gr. V-Max bullets at 3,650 fps.

In my opinion, anything in between is filling an imaginary gap.

Yep. If they wanted to make an improvement, they should have made it a .22 cal rimfire and shot 27-35 grain bullets at 2600 fps. It would have been a varmint hunters dream.

I applaud this round, but I don't have a need for it at this time. Times change though! I just think there are more uses for rimfire rounds.

I hope they ALSO come out with a .27 straightwall version. It should have more thump to it at less cost per round. Heck, I'd like to see a .32 and .44 rimfire also. That's what the original Henry repeater used and it's all we really need for plinking and small game using iron sights. Some of us still like the challenge of open sight hunting.

I would like to see more and bigger rimfire rounds.

+1 on more .32 rimfire. My father has both my grandfather's and great grandfather's .32s and over the years I have found a few boxes of ammo for him, but more would be nice. I would love to carry his pump action .32 on a coon hunt with my son the way Grandpa did with Dad. Still not sure how they used the irons at night though.
