Well guys, I did it. I sold a rifle to a nice "THF'er" and bought a bow from another nice "THF'er" all in the same day.
I have not ever even shot a deer before, but will hunt out on some land I have acquired in east texas this season. The game cam pics are looking good. I have been snooping around the archery forum a lot lately and realize the accomplishment in using a bow as opposed to a gun. At my place in east texas there are a lot of deep woods with little open space. I figured I should pick up bow hunting that way I would feel more accomplishment and challenge using a bow than a gun in the shot range that I have. I also would like to try to take hogs at some of the public land that do not allow any firearms.
I am planning on going to a shop soon to make sure I have everything set up for me how it should be.
I need a little advice on arrow/broadhead decisions, tree stand set up, sighting my bow in, and deer hunting in general. I will be doing a lot of research from now until bow season to make sure I am ready, but any advice from the forum is welcome. Now the hard part is deciding on what to take my first buck/deer with haha.
I got a PSE Brute LT compound bow.

think you are gonna end up w/ lotta different suggestions! reality is, there are a lot of "right" answers. I use grim reapers...love em and they fly just like my field points, so I don't have to re-sight. Also, there are no O-rings or anything to deal with, they reset themselves after each shot. Lotta guys use rage, and some still back in the old days using "fixed"! LOL.
You would do well to go to a bow shop and let them help you get the bow set up. Let them adjust peep, draw and such...
As far as pins, might try starting at 10 yards first. then check it at 20. I think most of the time your 20 yd pin is the closest pin you need. I have 20,30,40,50,60.
IMO, tree stand hunting is about setting up in good spot (trail cams will help here)whether bottle neck or along the line or water or whatever... and it is about stealth. (stealth in every way, scent, noise, sight, etc).
This is just one ole boys opinion...Im sure many differing opinions will follow! Good luck to you!

find a good archery shop close to you and let them set the bow up to you and make sure everything is working and fits you. if the bow doesn't fit you will not be comfortable shooting then practice allot then practice some more. I shot my bow for almost a year before I shot my first deer good luck and be patient

once you kill with it you'll be hooked. I know I was. When your close enough to hear them chew the corn it is defiantly a rush way beyond using the boomstick

If you are close to Fort Worth go talk to the guys at Cinnamon Creek Ranch. Their pro shop is ridiculous. I went last weekend and took a lesson and checked out some bows. They have earned my business. Great people with a lot of knowledge plus a pretty cool place to hang. Heard their 3-d range is awesome as well.

Agree with the others, get the bow fitted to you, and practice a lot with purpose. By that I mean concentrate on each and ever shot. Do not practice to the point of being too sore, bad habits can be developed and once ingrained are hard to get rid of. For hunting tips and some other stuff Cabela's Archery Classic is this weekend at all Cabela's locations. there will be industry insiders at each location http://www.cabelas.com/stores/store_info.jsp?pageName=035
