Hey fellas. I have a trusty old 10/22. Its about 20yrs old now. Shot brick after brick thru it. Never any issues. Suddenly, FTEs. Etractor was worn to a nub, so R&R w a new Voltz. Extracts great now! However, I also added an extended mag release, auto bolt conversion, bolt buffer, and an extended charging handle while I was in there. I am running into an issue where it lodges the round at an angle heading into the chamber. Timing varies from every other round to 2 in a mag. I have completely dissassembled and cleaned the gun and used OEM mags as well. No difference. Im wondering if for any reason the new spring with the charging handle may be 'stronger' or if maybe the new bolt buffer is causing the bolt to travel forward to quickly. A 'bounce', if you will? Any input would be appreciated!

BTW, I am shooting the cheap Remington bulk ammo. HOWEVER, Ive shot it for years and RARELY ever had an issue with it. I shouldnt have to keep my weapon on a strict diet. Its a .22. Should eat what I feed it.

Mags and ammo are the likely culprits. Remington bulk is known to be crappy ammo. Perhaps try a different brand or at least a different box/lot of the Remington.

Most semi-auto problems can be traced to magazines. Strip and clean it, making sure spring tension is good on reassembly. The other thing I'd look at in your case though is the "new" charging handle. Check your mag, if that doesn't do it swap back charging handles. Good luck.

Ive got 4mags. 2 25rd and 2 factory 10rd. Same issue with any of them. If I can ever find some damn CCI Stingers Im gonna try them. Just cant figure why the rifle would shoot the elcheapos fine BEFORE the mods. I just keep thinking maybe that buffer is causing an issue. I will try removing it and swapping factory charging handle.

Take the new parts and replace them with the old parts one at a time until you find out which part caused the error. Then you will know.

Shouldn't be the bolt buffer. I would start with ammo first. If you bought quality parts so you should not have this problem. Maybe the Remingtons don't have enough pop to cycle the bolt? I have never been a fan of their ammo. I am also wondering if it could be the bolt release? Where did you get the bolt release from? Take it out and make sure it does not have any burrs around the cutout or edges. Sometimes they cut those things and don't clean them up properly.

If you are close to Ft. Worth I will give you some ammo to try to see if that fixes the problem.

BTW, I had a Walther P22 that would NOT cycle Remington ammo. Would eat everything else but not Remington.

try swapping the charging handle I have had that issue before can be either added weight of the bolt handle or the spring tension

Guys. Thanks for the ideas. I have done a lot of searching and yall have provided the most original ideas, thus far!
Crash, I am in Grandview. About 30mi South of FTW. I sincerely appreciate the offer, but I wouldnt trouble you for something like that! I will find some ammo soon. Ammo shortage seems to be letting up.
Im starting to speculate a stronger spring tension, plus a heavier charging handle, are causing the gun to not cycle hard enough w/the weak Rems; whereas, with stock, old components, it could function on the weak/sporatic Rems.

My 10/22's all like Wolf MT. My educated guess is ammo followed by magazine.

My charging handle came with 4 diff springs with diff tensions and it doesnt have a issue with any of them but it might be the issue. Do you still have the org parts(charging handle and spring). put them back in and see if that helps. if it was shooting the ammo you have now fine prior to makeing the changes.

If you can bring it by I'll fix it for you. I'm old hand at 10/22's. My favorite 10/22 is my old 69'er. Made in the year I graduated HS and joined the USN.

Cast, thanks so much bud! I just picked up a box of better ammo. Im going to run that and see what it does. If it is not an ammo issue, I very well may take you up on that! Where abouts are you?

Keep us updated on what happens. I am interested to know. I have built 2 completely custom 10/22's and have never encountered this issue so it will be good to learn how to fix in the future.
