We made trip to the lease over the weekend for our annual work days. When we opened the camper the smell of ammonia was thick! Turned out the fridge was a goner, so we spent a half hr pulling it out. Then on to fix the problems we knew we had. After installing a new water pump that went out at the end of last season we fires her up to check the pressure. When it pressured up it blew of the faucet head and split the threaded keeper ring. Fortunately another guy had a spare in his camper, clutch play on his part!!

The further we got into the weekend of course we found the usual. We need new batteries, new solar panels and timers. When you really add up the costs of deer hunting it is amazing what we spend and go through to hunt. The price of the lease is only the begining. i know It's all worth it when the sun rises opening morning, but its a lot of expense and hard work getting there.

Lease upkeep cannot be an annual work day anymore. Have to get to lease and do work every month at least to avoid those problems.
Longer things set unused, the more they break.

Does get expensive though and hard to keep to that type of schedule .

We all feel it, sometime or another.

Huh. I never have that problem confused2

I head to the lease on the opening of dive season and my feeders are all full, batteries all changed, cameras all running with a new sd card in them, tank in the camper has fresh water, fridge is full, extra bags of corn are in the shed, camp area is mowed and all the firewood is cut and placed nicely by the fire pit.

Sounds like you need some new hunting buddies cheers

We have that happen every time I go out. Last time, we had 2 "dead" feeders. I looked at them, working again. The next weekend, broken again.

Another feeder has a timer that, supposedly, spins for 30 seconds, even though I set it to 1 second. Every time "I" hear it, it goes off for 1 second, others say it goes off for 30... no idea.

I am not going to worry about the feeders till September, when the cabin is done. Till then, they can go off or not go off, I do not care.. heh

I go out every 2 weeks and keep them filled, except the 30 second one.. grin) so deer will be there.

Its all good! We will get quality stuff this go around instead of cheap junk and be good to go for a couple of years and the SP will help on battery purchases.

The worst period in my hunting past was when another guy on the lease had teenage boys just getting into bow hunting. We'd get all the feeders full and working. The little spoiled brats would come down and set up little tree stands feet from the feeder and totally change the feed times, then not change them back. They'd eat all the food in the cabin. One got out my friend's (his uncle) flight gloves 'cause he was cold, then cleaned a deer...with them on, then left them still bloody in the cabin. Good times.

I have moved on from that lease. They're grown now and I think help out more, but still have "someone else will take care of it" tendencies I hear.

I like feeders with locking latches on them. Keeps family and friends from "helping you out".

We are lucky not to have anyone messi g with our feed times and what not, since we do all the work. But I feel your pain on guys clearing the pantry. I deal with these food raiders on a weekly basis during season. A couple of which may have posted on this thread...

You pretty much have to maintain stuff year around or it will pile up on you to the point you just want to give up. There is always, always something to do...

My brother and I make monthly trips to the lease to mow do maintenance ect that way it don't pile up. Were going this weekend to put up a new stand , I'm mowing my shooting lane putting a new rechargeable battery on my feeder , mowing the camp and camping over night with our young nephews.

The twenty somethings on my place cracked me up a few weeks ago. They have not been down for a few months and they brought there wives down to see our new section of the ranch. All of them pull up and open up their campers and go in. Moments later you hear squealing and stomping when the ladies start finding mice running around and turds everywhere.

When I go to the ranch with the guys my planned project list usually goes to hell soon after getting though the gate. Always something unplanned on that needs fixed, patched, refilled, stood back up, re-wired, re-plumbed, tuned up, cleaned out, mowed or chopped down, or recharged.
