We picked up a small place close to home that we started protein feeding this year. (Sure is easier to mess with compared to our big lease that's far away...)
This place is less than 100 acres and these deer are sucking down the protein like crazy. The last two weeks they put away 650 pounds. Next year we might have to bargain shop on feed, damn deer are getting expensive.
I hope they don't founder, it's pretty green still, so I doubt it'll be a problem.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Do you have a camera on your feeders. You may have a coon and or hog problem.

No seeing a 100 acres having enough deer to kill 650 lbs in a short period unless its all breeder and growing pens. How long did it take for the 650 lbs to go and what part of Tx is this ???

i was going through 350lbs in 9-10 days last summer on my 45 acres, no hogs but plenty of coons to help out. i hate coons.

Of course I have cameras. No hogs. Some coons, but we keep them pretty thinned out.
The deer are just putting it away. Fast.

Centex hill country, yes low fenced. Lots of deer. 650 pounds in two weeks, not 9-10 days? The forbes and native browse are starting to diminish, May was wet but June was dry.

They're looking good. Should be a few shooters from the velvet pics we've got so far.

Not all the unusual for deer to hammer feed at that rate in Central Texas. 45 lbs per day would be about 20-25 deer which would be about right for a 100 acres in Central Texas. That size place would be bringing in deer from the neighbors also.

They would eat more than that on my last lease, I couldn't afford to keep doing it.

We have deer trails that cross county roads from neighbors onto our place that go straight for 2 things 1)water and 2) protein feeders.
We have 4 350 lb feeders and 1 3k lb feeder and they will finish off the 4 little ones in a little as 2 weeks sometimes. After a grass fire burned the place they would barely last a week.
It's hell eatin em live

We are going thru over 4tons a month on 800 acres. thank goodness the tanks are still holding water but lets pray for some rain soon

I have two 2 ton feeders on my place. The last time I filled them up they drained them in 2 weeks! This is on almost 500 acres.

this time of the year the deer, bucks and does hit the protein hard. We use five 350 lbs. Boss Buck gravity feeders and they are empty every weekend when I get there and we are still throwing corn out of a half dozen spin corn feeders too. Although I think the hogs and turkeys get a lot of that. We unfortunately have a lot of hogs. All my deer at the protein feeders are basically nocturnal. Too hot during the day
