Yep, I have a buddy who lives in south Florida and said that you can have bucks in hard horns rutting in July with bucks in velvet standing around. Said it is the most screwed up rut you will ever see.

I can't imagine. Wouldn't think the deer could hold up to that. And wouldn't think many hunters would want to fight the heat, humidity and bugs for an August 3rd opening day hunt.

Are there any theories as to why?

Link didn't work for me, but I heard that you can hunt the rut for 5-6 months. If you are willing to travel throughout florida chasing it. Apparently they even have south Texas bucks there and they still rut on thier native texas cycle.

It may not be too bad on them, if its that hot then maybe the does don't run hard and it makes it easy on the bucks... partyon555

Here is a link (that actually works) a map that shows the peak rut days all over Florida. It is bizzare.
I don't know why I care, I'll probably never hunt Florida. Just bored and waiting for fall.

Wow 7 months. From what I've heard florida was nearly shot out, so they broght in bucks from all around. Most kept their native ruts.
