I had an NC STAR that sucked ! but it is the only one I've dealt with.

Simmons and Bushnel

I will say I've always been the king of cheap scopes and "was" having really good luck with BSA but the last couple I bought weren't good.

I'm a VORTEX guy now!

I shudder everytime I see one of my hunters with a BSA, "Barska, Weaver, or Simmons scope. What is worse is they put cheap rings on it too.

The last Centerpoint I had I really didn't like. My son wanted it and he likes it.

I have two of the NcStar 2-7x32 LER scopes on two old Mauser 8x57's I use as scout rifles and they have been 100% issue free and perform well for what they are. Surprising to me because of the repeated recoil they've been subjected to over the years (LOTS of hotter handloads..and dead hogs!).

For standard mount scopes I like Nikon and more recently have really gotten attached to Sightron.

Out of curiosity, how many of those you listed have you owned and had bad luck with? Or is this more of a " I have no experience but I heard they were bad" opine?

Agreed. Weaver (and Bushnell) get zinged because all most people know is the crap mounted on package rifles or blister packs on the shelves at Wal-Mart. Both companies sell some really nice scopes in the higher price ranges.

Back in 1968 I bought a 222 mag with a 4 power weaver, very accurate never changed,my son has it now.Ever marlin 60 I have owned has had a weaver 4 power and very accurate. When I owned a ranch at Mountain Home I used a mini 14 with a weaver 4 never felt like it was shooting wrong.killed lots of hogs with it. Bsa I put several on a 45 70 before I switched to A leopold.4 shots and they started to come apart.

Tasco is the worst I had. Had it for about a week then sold it.

I shudder when someone shows up for a hunt with a cheap scope. They generally also dont bring binoculars with them as well. The largest issue I have found with the ncstar tasco bsa type of scopes is when you get into low light. I have had to loan my rifle to a hunter before because he could not see a deer in low light. I tell them as a general rule spend what you did on a rifle on optics.

In 1970, I put a Western Field scope on a Marlin 336. After a few years, the crosshairs started rotating. After a couple more years, they made an X instead of a +. Funny thing is I never had to adjust it during all that time.
