Try Gander Mountain from now on they might be a little higher on some things but they will match Academy's prices on anything. They have great customer service, on site gun smith to help and will custom order for you as well. I have never had any problem with them...

dump the gun and by a Remington, been there with a cheap new England arms, worth the extra money hard enough on kids hunting without the rifle or scope being cheap, I don't hunt with cheap crap, so why put your kid out with it, give them every opporunity you can afford, my daughter now thinks she can hit anything she wants with her Remington youth.243 with zeiss conquest 3x9x40 and I have about 800 in the package.

Diesel, I spoke with my son and he affirmed what others had posted above. Academy will return the gun to the manufacturer and pay the shipping. They will help you in that way. He says there should be a yellow sheet in the box that explains that. I hope this helps.

Thanks guys for all your help and comments. Thanks Amos for checking with your son. jdickey::: Thanks for the info ...we talked to them on the phone and the guy in sporting goods said that I would have to return it...that they usually dont ship guns back to their manufacturers??? We are going to take it up there and get this resolved face to face. Maybe things will be a little different....I will keep you guys posted.

I do agree that you should dump the gun when you get it fixed. Spend the extra money and get a Remington. Rossi firearms are cheap.

The manager from Academy above may be able to correct me, but my knowledge is that many times its an agreement with the big retail stores and the manufacturers that does not permit returns. I know that is it with wal-mart. A good friend of mine was a manager with wal-mart and is now a corporate guy with them and the manuf. don't want a RTV decision made by a 19 year old college sophomore at the customer counter. There are many decisions and policies based on agreements with certain vendors in stores like that.

Vernon... you're pretty much on the money! We have certain vendors that we can return the guns directly to them; however, there are others, where the guns are sent to an authorized repair facility.
Of course, I suppose it depends upon the Store Manager, but at our store, we have never hesitated to send a gun off for a customer. We have sent guns off for customers, even when we knew that there was nothing wrong with the gun.... just an OPERATOR ERROR! Additionally, what we have found, is that the manufacturer will attempt to contact the customer direct, explain what they have found, if anything, and include a written report of their results when the manufacturer returns the gun.
In many cases, all the gun needed was to be cleaned!

I have now tried 3 types of ammo... and NO change. THis gun is Bad from the start. As to Jdickey: This is NOT operator error if that is what you are telling me. Im shooting less than 1" groups with my remington. Im going to take the gun up to academy(70mile trip one way for me) and see if I can talk to the Manager directly. It would be great if they would just send the gun off to Rossi for me. That is all

dieselboost... didn't mean to imply that you were the problem with the gun, but more often than not, we have found that to be the case; and, it sounds as though you have checked all possibilities! You may indeed have a bad gun!
The following is directly from the ACADEMY FIREARM RETURN POLICY/DISCLAIMER....
"All firearm sales are final. Damaged or defective firearms must be returned to the manufacturer for warranty repair. Acdemy will not exchange damaged or defective firearms. Acdemy will assist customers with arrangements for warranty repairs to the manufacturer."
Sorry your friend has had the problem, but hopefully it can be resolved!

I bought a Ruger P95 from Academy 2 years ago the day before opening morning for general season. I got to the lease loaded the clip and and tried to chamber a round. It wouldn't chamber. I tried and tried. Still nothing. I saw what was wrong, but I wasn't going repair a new gun myself. The next day I went back to Academy and told them about and gun and they said that they would have to send the gun to Ruger and it may takes months to get it back. They said that they couldn't swap it out. I told them that this was BS I just bought the SOB yesterday brand new and it won't chanber a round. He told me that I should have checked the gun out more before I bought it. I asked him if he would have actually let me load and chamber some rounds in the store before I made a purchase. Of course he said no. I called him several choice names and told him they better make this right now. He then said that I could take it to a local gunsmith and have them work on it, and Academy would reimburse me for the repair. I told him to put it in writing. I took it to the gunsmith and told him exactly what was wrong. A week later I got a call saying the gun was fixed. It was not, but I had a receipt for the gunsmith saying that he worked on the gun, so I fixed the gun myself and Academy reimbursed me all of the repairs.
I would have liked to seen you "call him a few choice words" to the gun bar guys at the academy i work at. they would not have taken lightly bein called obsenities. the employee wasn't in the wrong.if he woulda exchanged it he probably would lose his job. thats why we make sure all firearms get looked over by the buyer and you sign an academy no return policy "once the firearm leaves the building it falls under manufacturer warranty and academy will not take it back" and we say we can ship back to manufacturer. In plain english. but i guess if someone cries enough they'll get their way.
