Signed on to a dove lease early in March of this year. At the same time I lucked on a MLD3 lease in East Texas a couple of weeks later. With our early deer hunting start, I will not have time to hunt south zone dove this year. Grey Feathers agreed to refund my lease fees. That was back in April. Several phone calls, emails, text, and still waiting for refund. Made me wonder about the legit of this business. Has anyone had any dealings with Grey Feathers and are they legit. Next time I will do more research on where I spend my money.

Sorry, I have no information about them. First off let me say, there are 2 sides to every story. I don't understand how any outfitter can stay in business if they run their operation in a way that it gets bad press on the net. I know when I book hunts with an outfitter I gather all the information possible about them before sending a deposit,,,and expect my hunters to do the same..
Welcome to THF and I hope it was just a misunderstanding and y'all get it worked out...Good Luck...

There's a flip side to that..I've trusted hunters that booked hunts and not show up..I limit the number of Dove hunters in the field so it ended up costing me money..I now require a deposit..

Grey Feathers did not have to refund. I just asked when all of this came up. They said they usually do not do refunds, but since so early they had no problem with getting me the money back. Been promised too many times the check would be in the mail. Even sent them two new customers that signed on as well. Just not used to doing business with someone who does not do what they say. Went and met with them and checked out the fields. All seemed to look ok, but I am wondering now. In the future I will post a request for references and check out some of the services I am finding on this website. Seems to be a good source of info.

Ive had a lot of folks say they have 5 and show up with 2 or 3 for a goose hunt.

These websites can be good and bad sources of info but on this subject its spot on. What fields did you look at? Im just curiuos because he is claiming 5,000 acres and has about 1300. 1400 tops.

I just spent one afternoon looking at the fields. Many had milo just planted etc. I think most were west of Hwy 59. I think he was around 2k acres. Some of those fields become goose fields as the season goes. He was supposed to have his web site up a while back with maps, info. I do not believe his website is up either.

If i would run a dovehunt business, i would only do seasonlease with payment the week before at a meeting place with all leaseholders. I would not take any dayleases.
2 of my leases runs like that and it works.
Dayleases are only pizzing of season lease holders.
I went on a day lease 10 yrs ago, never again.
One of my leases has a max of 50 people on 650 acres. Thats a perfect ratio. Yes, on opening day you will have 35 guys or so, but after the second week i am usually by myself for the rest of the year.

I took the 1500 acre Moore property and the Wendt property with me when I left. That would leave him with about 1300 give or take. Maps are a pain when you run a lease though. They have to be made or adjusted every year and that takes time.

Sometimes these outfitters cannot afford to refund your money even if they wanted to...probably running things a bit tight.
To be determined

If 275.00 is too much to refund over a three month period, then your company cannot be too solid.

Deposits are a contract that tells the customer you have a place to hunt and the provider that you will be there. Hunting is a business there are many things that happen before the hunt that the hunter never see,all take money to make happen. That being said if he said if he said you would get your money back then he should refund the money or give an explanation to what is happening.

They are legit but a bit too crowded on opening weekend for me. Lots of white wings though and mourning doves too if you can hunt in October!

If you get on it then pm me. I drive under the birds they are hunting every morning. I will fill you in on what has been a great location for them every year. I have already started seeing the white wings moving into the property across the highway. If they continue as in years past, there will be hoards of them on the opener.

Just an update. Met with the owner of GF yesterday. He was refunded my fees and apologized for the inconvenience. He also said my son and I were welcome to hunt for free this year in an effort to make up for the situation. Just wanted all to know. I thought that to be a very generous offer. If I do take some time to go, I will pay him for his service.

The truth always lies somewhere in the middle. I wouldn't of offered to give you a dime back, that was their mistake. You entered into an agreement and wiggled your way out of it and belly ached until you got your deposit back. The simple fact that you asked for your non-refundable deposit back in the first place speaks volumes about your character and your feeling on agreement between gentlemen.

I signed on back in March for the fall season. There was no agreement other than I paid for the season. Of course there is never a guarantee of a refund when you purchase anything. I simply explained the situation and asked if a refund was possible. The owner said he had no problem with the refund. Once that was said the deal was made. Had he refused, I would have a dove lease that I would not have time to use and all discussions would have been over. But I do admit he did not have to offer the refund. He did say it would take a while, but after some time I was beginning to wonder. I also in the interim sent him 2 others that signed up as well. Yesterday he came through with the refund. I thought it pretty decent that I acknowledged that act. I thought it pretty decent that I stated his offer to hunt free this year. Outside of those stated facts you have absolutely no knowledge of me, or my character. If I did go hunt his place, I would pay like anyone else. The way he handled the situation yesterday would incline me to send people his way, or when schedule permits use his service later on. I am glad I was not dealing with you. Go judge someone you know.
