Looks like no bow hunting this weekend for some. There's alot of forest closures in East Texas after Hurricane Ike. If you plan to hunt National Forest areas, I would give them a call to make sure it's allowed. I understand the fines can range from $1,000-$10,000 for violators. Forest Closures

For Davy Crockett National Forest a few areas will be open for opening day, but unfortunately not the areas i planned on hunting. Hopefully the whole forest will open sometime next week.

There's a few spots open in Trinity county, but nothing open in Houston county. I called, and they could not tell me when anything in Houston county will open. I've heard rumors that it could be closed through October.

Much of the Big thicket National Preserve is also closed!

This will probably only serve to give the locals who hunt year round better pickens.
