I heard a rumor that Gander Mountain will be coming to Lewisville, the old Sportsman Warehouse location across from Vista Ridge Mall by mid-2014, has anyone else heard that? Also, I've heard good things about them, are they deserved? Thanks.

I have a family member who lives near one and only went a few times due to poor customer service and not-so-competetive prices.

I've been to one several times that's out of town for me. VERY expensive. I don't know if they're all like that but I've also heard it from many people.

I don't see how the GM in Tyler stays in business. Very few customers, very high prices, very incompetent and disinterested employees. And...very much in the red, I'm betting.

I've heard they're building 4 new stores. I guess they'll be losing four times as much money, then.

I go in Gander Mountain in Tyler from time to time, yes they are expensive but when they do run a sale on something it is usually a pretty good deal. It always seems like no one is in there though. I have often wondered myself how they stay in business.

My GF lives out past beaumont so I'm in that store about every other visit just to check stuff out and kill time. Only things I've really bought were bow fishing arrows, good selection and moderately priced, and some harder to find mirror lures. The CS is pretty horrible. I'd almost bet I could jump the gun counter grab a gun and walk out the front door with it. The workers don't pay attention to people at all. Lol.

Customer service will always depend on where you are. I've been to some that are every bit as good as I could expect, others, not so much. As long as the new store gets staffed correctly, it could be good. As for prices, it all depends on what you are looking for. I've found some great deals, especially on guns. I bought my first pistol from Gander Mtn in WI, since it had some slide marks from being racked, they took $100 off of it, paid $350 otd on it back in 07, still use it a lot to this day. I remember going to the original Gander Mtn in Wilmot WI, back when it was almost nothing but mail order, and they had it set up more like a Mom and Pop bait shop. In fact, those are some of my favorite memories growing up.

There one near me always has high prices and small selection. Always irritates me that they seem to carry only half of what you. We'd like one time they will carry bullets but no powder or vice versa

Gander Mountain is going to stricly outdooor clothing and gun sales. Hunting, Camping and Fishing equipment are being phased out per one of their store managers. Their prices were too high and they could not compete with Academy and others.

the one in Texarkana is very high on their prices, CS not that bad and you can get a deal on a sale from time to time even on their guns the academy across the road is most of the time at least 50 dollars cheaper on same gun, one thing they got going for them on firearms is that they will take trades of used guns maybe that's how they compete, as for cloths and camping stuff it would not surprise me if above post was true, nice store to kill time and look in for me mostly never made a major purchase from them only small sale itiems like tee shirts

NRA all the way god guns and guts made us free , i want all three

My experience, Corsicana, is that CS is relatively poor, prices are high, but if you a willing to shop you can find an occasional good deal. I bought a brand new CZ 550 .243 for $499.00.

Same here. They are high but handy to have near if you just have to have something fast. 90% of the time my purchases are hunting/outdoor clothes from the 50-75% off racks. They used to have super clearance racks where you could get up to 75% off of stuff already marked down up to 75%. I got a bunch of Russell clothes for pennies on the dollar that way. Haven't seen that in a while....

Their ammo selection has been almost non-existent throughout the "panic" and still is. I don't know who supplies their ammo but they must be terrible.

Few customers don't see how they stay afloat.

Heard they are making a change to their stores, increasing stores and making a run at academy's hold on Texas

'Went to the one in Amarillo a few years ago. Same as most of the above - very few customers and a staff that ignores the few that are there.

But I'm not sure the customer service is any different in Bass Pro or Cabela's. I'm getting to the point that when any worker asks me if I'm finding everything ok (and lately they've been young people, never the old hands), I feel like getting the manager and telling him/her that the kid needs a raise.

Went to the College Station location yesterday to check their new 'Firearm Super Center'.

The gun selection was massive, they had ammo of every caliber, and LOTS of it. They did alter the layout of the store a bit, and a lot of the fishing section was gone.

Their customer service was completely different than before. I was CONSTANTLY asked if I needed help, especially in the gun section. I felt like I was in Best Buy. Before, you had to go find help if you wanted it.

Everything was still a little pricey.

Same here. Been 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Every time, I was ask several times if I needed help. They are proud of their prices, but sometimes they carry what Academy don't, and by the time I order it from Cabellas and pay shipping, I can just walk in there and buy it.

They definitely need to do something to compete with Academy. The Gander in College Station is right next door to Academy. Seems like you never see more than 8-10 vehicles in the Gander parking lot, and then right next door, the Academy lot is always full.

I do not see how they stayed in business this long.

I agree and when I was in college station the only reason to go into GM was for the boot & clothing sales...I did get a set of Ariat steel toes and a set of Irish Setter corn stalkers for $120 for both!

My only other GM experience was in Sherman TX when they came to town it was really the only other major option other than wal-mart and an independent place down town.....GM's prices were HIGH every time and by almost 50%; it was really a good thing when Academy came to town.

It is the truth DQ. I have the contract to install all the exterior signage. I am also doing a new store in Mesquite at the old Roomstore site off Towne East blvd..
