Cut the "leaves" off the stump and then hack up the stump. The smell will bring them pretty quick if they have eaten it anytime in their life. You can check plants and see where the deer have stomped the leaves off of the plants and eaten them in an area. Start there. We did it in '94 north of Sanderson the first afternoon in about 10 areas. Had deer on 8 of them the next morning. They would come and go all day long. Use the wind in your favor to draw deer out of rougher country with it or from the neighbor (if said neighbor was the Longfellow )

I am sure it would in desert country. I know in Mexico before corn was a big deal down there they would take a club or bat to a large cactus to draw in WT down there. Worked like corn with the smell, fiber and moisture of the plant. Little Roy Hindes told me when he burns pear in late winter and it crosses over shedding season he will always find sheds from his mature bucks in those burned areas. The cattle eat the plants to the stumps and the bucks come in and eat the stumps. Bed in the burned out areas over night and drop sheds there. I was at a seminar when they talked about a study done in the 80's where they found pear to 45% of the deers diet in Jan-Feb and July-Aug on the ranches in South Texas they did the studies on. I have watched bucks walk away from a protein feeder, eat corn in the road then walk off and eat pear. I taped those bucks. It was in late October after 9"+ of rain from Sept till that day. So it was green. I have sotol here in Goliad County but to much other browse and forb growth to even try it. Might just do a plant or two and put a camera on it.

Feed Total Deer feed for Mule deer they LOVE it! It's not the cheapest but they hit my feeders daily . I went up last weekend to fill them at night and about had to push one of them out of the way to get to the feeder, he was bedded down about 5 feet from it and hand another in the bushes behind him

Ya I was thinking brady I might give it a try here if it continues to stay hot and dry. We hit 102 today and grass is turning now. Won't be long till forb growth is toasted also. So it will be browse, protein and what little forb growth is left so I might give it a whirl with a TC in place. Sotol seed pod stalks are what I use to make my shooting sticks so I hate to kill to much of it though.
