Wow, I didn't know my AR was supposed to be so inaccurate! 5-8 MOA at 100 yards? That kinda sux. Maybe they get their MOA data for the AK from combat conditions where most people wielding AKs these days hold the rifle above their heads and shoot unaimed??
But AR should be more around 2-3 MOA shouldn't it?

All of the AR's that I have shot have been from sub-moa to one or two not seven.

Wow, my AR-15 won't shoot 700-950 rounds per minute.......now an M-16...... And if you shoot that many rounds per minute, you are gonna be holding one hot piece of metal! I didn't think the barrels would last that long, but then I am reminded of a video where some guys shot an AR so fast they caught the hand guards on fire...threw it in a mud puddle to cool it off, picked it back up and fired again...still was in the 2-3 MOA range. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6cwh4IxXScThey were polymer hand guards, but still...

700-950rd per minute???? Someone needs to tell MrFudd, his stuff is way over clocked. Bad.
Thats in the realm of the MG34 and MG42.
Maybe MrFudd was shooting an open bolt AR? And thought the barrel was an ex wife or something.

Besides the accuracy junk, I think a 7.62x39 will reach out further than 400 yd. I've seen a .300blk hit gongs at 600 yd and thats a 7.62x35 with a narrower case so it has less powder behind it. Then you have the cost. Most AK's I've seen for sale lately are in the AR range.

i guess that flow chart is for kindergardeners. So many discrepancies... example AK47 effective 400 range - was taken from infantry manual. this range is for shooting with OPEN IRON SIGHTS. Duh. After 400 meters normal solder cannot clearly see and aim at target with iron sights. Original AKs dont have side rail for scope. Thus soviet solders were trained NOT to engage targets outside reasonable range. No ammo wasting. And again - accuracy described is with Open Iron Sights Only, shooting prone with only hand support will give average solder spread of 3"-5" from center (6"-10" max spread across).

This comparison seems what the Army would have released to hide the true numbers of the weapons actual potential. Like saying Abrams tanks can only go 35mph. When in real life they'll go 85 uncut. Saddam found that out. The hard way.

I'm just messing around. Picked one up at a gun show and it actually felt pretty good. Better than any AR I ever picked up.
What are the best quality makers?

What are the best quality makers? If you can find a milled receiver mak90.....thats a stout AK. Stock sucks, But you can fix that.

I've found (just in my experience) that my SKS's are noticeably more accurate than any AK that I've ever had. Probably has something to do with barrel length and /or milled vs. stamped design or some such.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

I own an AK and I have shot plenty of AR's. the AR is lighter, has better ergonomics, more accurate, more quality control in production, and is a much more modular platform than the AK. The AK spits out whatever you put in it, shoots a heavier round, and used to be considerably cheaper. I'm not saying the AR is not reliable, because I don't own one. The current military style AK (pistol grip, muzzle break, high-cap mags, etc.) is running from 750-1200 dollars now a days. They are the two most famous battle rifles ever invented, but I would rather drop 900 on an AR vs. an AK.
