Looking at small tract of 80 acres about 4 miles north of Aspermont. Fairly new to deer hunting and just looking for a place we can set up on that is our own. Land has a dried up pond and water well near entrance. Have been hunting in Taylor county on lease south of Merkel where the deer are very scarce. Just too new to know if it's worth it in the Aspermont area???

There's a ton of deer and pigs in that area. I love hunting up there. Not an over abundance of big deer, but there's some good ones.

We hunt just outside of Aspermont and had a TERRIBLE year. Think the land owners around us messed up our set ups. They need rain pretty bad.

There can be very good hunting there. Area has got some good rains in the last month. The best hunting is the sandy plateau areas that are covered with shinnery.

There are some outstanding bucks that get killed every year in Stonewall cty. If you're close to the Brazos and have thick cover you'll have deer. Lots of pigs too.

Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it.

Hunted a great place (2,500 ac) in that area for a couple of years but its hard to say about your 80 ac. If it's the right 80 you're in biz. Good luck.

Lots of good animals in Stonewall. My uncle has a big ranch between Aspermont and Jayton (JD Patterson Ranch) and they have plenty of awesome bucks. There's a lot of pigs in the area too.

I'm going to roll the dice and give it a shot. There are some good shinnery oak just outside the fence on the northeast corner and a wheat field just outside the fence on the west. I was told there are a lot of deer that move between the both. It's only 80 acres, but I gotta start somewhere. Thanks for all the input

If they plant that wheat this fall and your place is between it and bedding/cover, you're good to go.

Put out feeders as soon as possible and feed year round. If you can set up water stations as well you should be good to go.
