I know this topic is over-analyzed but I have a real situation that I would like your feedback on. Our family has a 100 acre farm surrounded on three sides by a 640 acre farm. The 640 acre property just sold and they are planning on putting up a high fence. Our property is a long narrow piece without much cover. There is another 300 acre ranch on the fourth side of our property. How do you think this is going to affect our hunting?

get a few end dumps full of corn and just spread it out all over your fence line roads, while they are high fencing their place. and if you got the equipment make you a huge oat field. just feed as stated above and you'll draw some in.

I'd talk to the new people and see if you can get your place fenced in with theirs and get on some sort of a mgt program with them. Otherwise, from your description, it looks like hunting will be pretty tough in the future.

If you don't have the brush to hold deer, your hunting is going to suck. I don't know if feeding it like crazy would really do much if you don't have the brush for them to hide in.

I would suggest fencing off the rest of your place if you felt that you had enough brush for them to live in. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother fencing the rest of it.

Right now it is leased for catle so we would have to drop that to allow for more brush to grow up. I am hoping they may not fence the entire area or that we can work out something to accomodate both properties but if they are planning to use it as a paid hunting area it will be tough to get them to let us join in.

We hunt on a ranch thats about 200 acres but was closer to 1000 before most of it got sold and the new owner decided to high fence the main boundary fence that separates our property from his and it def. hurt our huntin for a year or so but he doesnt feed at all so it is slowly coming back for us...It stinks havin to watch deer tryin to get to your side of the fence though that you know used to be yours!

FEEEEEEEEED LIKE CRAZY...do what they suggested above and when they are just about done fencing their three sides...fence your front end in. You will capture a lot of the deer on your 100 acres and be able to have "them" pay for 3/4's of your High Fence!!!

Feeding may not do a lot to hold them in, but not feeding will be a guarantee to not hold them in. With the racket the fencing guys will be making, they will have all the deer scared out of your 100 unless you have something to keep them wanting to be there. Feed is about your only solution. Sure, it will cost a bundle to throw out a pallet of corn the week that they are putting the fence up, but it's cheaper than having to lease land somewhere to hunt on because you have no deer left on your place.

Good luck finding your solution.
