I'm going out this weekend to try my new Foxpro to call in some coyotes. I'm new to predator hunting so I thought I'd ask the more experienced hunters for any tips and/or specific calls that might be effective this time of year. Any suggestions are appreciated.

#1 - Coyotes usually circle downwind. Set yourself up crosswind and have downwind in your peripheral vision. I have shotgunned a few coyotes who came in right downwind of me.

#2 - Wear camo and don't move. At least, move as little as possible.

#3 - If you are hunting somewhere that doesn't get hunted much, your best bet will be any of the Foxpro rabbit distress sounds. Pup distress is recommended also. If you are hunting somewhere that has been called before, chances are the predators have heard the common Foxpro rabbit distress sounds. Try bird distress or better yet, put some less common sounds on your foxpro. All the free sounds from predatoruniversity.com have worked great for me. Especially cowtip cottontail.

Hope this helps!

Place something in the field that will get their attention and distract them a little like a large bird feather tied to a stick with kite string. Wind will make the feather move around close to the ground.

I agree with Bob on the coyote pup distress! Pups are on the ground and on their mind right now!
Also fawn distress should be rolling about now as well!
And like 40yoter mentioned if they haven't heard them before any of the rabbit distress sounds will tempt their tummy!
Good luck!

Thanks for all of the tips. We went out last weekend with the new Foxpro and got set up a few hours before sun down. Damned if the Foxpro wouldn't work. The remote just displayed a bunch of jibberish and it wouldn't make a peep? needless to say it was pretty disappointing. I called the company when I got home and they said the unit was corrupt and they're sending me a new one. I'll try out all the advice I got here when I can get back out to the lease. Again, thanks for the pointers! We'll get em next time.

Yep. I don't care which e-caller you have, if you do enough calling eventually it will have a bad day and crap the bed on ya. Hand calls don't run on batteries either. Also, the sounds on an e-caller sound the same on all units, but you and I could be blowing on the same hand call and sound completely different, and that may be a sound that a coyote has never heard.
