Traveling south on I-35E out of Waxahachie (Thank God for spell check)there were several fields covered in large sun flowers. In my 59 years I have never seen fields covered with the large variety in TX

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I'm new to this so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but how do you go about contacting landowners for hunts like these?
I've only hunted on public land

Be nice and ask

Either have cash
Or learn to use a shovel alot of older land owners need a hand with some things you'd be suprised some could care less about the money.

I'd love to do something like that to have access to hunt the land. I just really don't know where to start regarding contacting landowners.

I find the when there out on there tractors and flag them down introduce myself and go from there. You may get shot down 100 times but the more you ask the better your chances.

They should be harvested long before September.. I believe they'll be sprayed with a defoliant in July and the combine will harvest the seeds shortly thereafter.. One of the farmers with several hundred acres of sunflowers along 287 between Waxahachie and Ennis said they ship the seed up north to be pressed in to sunflower oil..

The ones I saw out there are confectionary and the seeds are to big for dove. Those are worthless to a dove hunter.

Lots of people up here planting sunflowers for the first time in a long time. There is a field of them on 75 right in the middle of Allen by the Wal-Mart. I dont remember the exact figure but it was good money. The ones around here are going up to Oklahoma.
