Info:
Wife just sent this to me. Her friend killed it because my wife is scared to death of snakes. Wife says its a little over a foot long and it was aggresive.

We live on a creek and I have continually looked for moccasins for the last three years never seeing one.

We have a small pool where this snake was found swimming in the water. We also have another live snake in a skimmer bucket (wife wont kill it and I'm at work and her friend left).

I believe this is a water moccasin but wanted to get yall's thought too. It seems since there is another one we might have had a nest hatch somewhere nearby. Will chlorine kill these snakes? Anyway I can try and irradicate them from my pool area? My son is 4 years old and was taking his first swimming lesson of the year. Just want to try and pretect my family. Any insight/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Based off of the shape of the head and characteristics, it looks non-venomous to me. Most likely a water snake.

Chlorine at normal swimming pool levels will not kill snakes.

Ill second that. non-venomous. Water snakes are very aggressive. Had one that kept trying to eat my crappie out of the fish basket. After many hits from the fishing rod. He finally moved on. But came back the next day for more hits on the head.

Go buy yourself a duck. They will hammer snakes that size. Plus its really fun to watch.

Put some large gators in your swimming pool. They will eat those things.

You could also fill your pool with gasoline and then shoot a flaming arrow into it when you see a snake.

Just sorta brainstorming here...

That's not a water moccasin unless you're wife's friend beat it's head flat. Looks like a non-venomous water snake of some sort

If they are caught in the skimmer they will drown, so most likely that one will be dead when you get home, but there is not enough chlorine in the pool to kill them.

I had one in my skimmer one time. Didn't want to wait for him to drown so I stuck the gas powered hedge trimmer down in there. smile

Did you come up with that before or after you crapped your pants?
