The 95 gr. SST out of a Savage with 1:9.25 twist, to be specific. Probably is on the heavy side for that twist, but that's basically all that was there.

If you have, I'm wondering about your results. I'm interested in stuff like wounding, shot placement and if the bullet held or fragmented. I'm thinking about using this setup this season, and have never hunted with anything smaller than .25/06, so I'd like to hear your experiences. Thanks.

I have not shot exactly that set up, I have 2 243's and neither would shot that bullet worth a crap...so I just bought reloading stuff for a 243 and found a load, cause I reload anyways..Neither would shot 100g or 95g, the best I found was 90g and they would tack them.

I have a Kimber Montana and a Remington Model 700 CDL in .243 and both shoot the 95 grain Hornady Superformance very well.
Both are incrediblly accurate and have successfully taken down several nice bucks and quite a few hogs.
My grade on this round would be "A"

Had a guy shooting the Hornady Superformance SST out of his 243 last year at our lease. His first shot dropped an eight point at a measured 243 yards. Bullet held together great, very small entry, large exit wound. His next shot was at a doe at roughly 100 yards. She dropped in her tracks. Everybody on our lease was suddenly using the superformance SST. My brother in law did great with a 25-06 and I was very satisfied with the performance in a 270. Maybe it was a fluke, maybe good shot placement..... the SST shooters got nine deer total, one ran ten yards and dropped, the remainder were DRT. Average shot was 100 yards. Large exit wounds were standard.

My Nephew has taken three deer with that bullet in .243, it is a winchester model 70 that was my Grabdfathers gun. Two bucks at 165 yards and one doe at about 125 yards. We have never had to track or recovered a bullet with this ammo.

I've pulled a pile of hornady bullets out of deer. Almost textbook bullet performance, but I rarely get a pass thru. From everything from a.270-.300 win mag

They typically are DRT so I can't complain too much

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've been running handloaded 95 gr. SST's in my 243's (plural) for about 10 years now. Those things are stone killers. Both of my 243's are carbines and velocities are very moderate which I think actually helps. I think the velocity out of those rifles is right in the sweet spot for the SST's. My 788 alone has probably accounted for 20 deer in the last 10 years by my hand and people I've loaned it to, and nothing has gone more than a step.

Should work fine if your gun likes them.

My 243, a 1959 Sako has been running the Barnes 80g TTSX Vortex ammo the last few seasons with my son using it.

Wicked on deer and pigs.

My 12 yr old daughter took her first Red Deer last year with a Savage Axis 243 shooting 80gr Superformance GMX. It was a safari style hunt and we took time to make sure she had the perfect shot before she pressed the trigger. We managed to get her within about 80 yards. That tiny little bullet went right through his pumper and dropped him in his tracks. I was perfectly happy with the bullets performance.

I've killed nilgai antelope with it, I love that ammo, gone out to 550 yds on a coyote and dropped him, but it was with the gmx bullets 80 gr. out of a savage arms

I think the all copper bullets like the Barnes or GMX really take the penetration capabilities up several notches...

Hit big bone at 30 yards or a lung shot at 400 they work.

I shot a buck last year with that exact set up. dropped in its tracks. bullet was found in the skin opposite side though at 67 yards. but perfect mushroom. this exact same thing happened the same day with a buddy and his 6mm same mushroom and everything. work great just no blood trail and no exit most the time but drops them real close to the shot

The BarnesTTSX in .243 are down right violent and nasty....I have old Remington Mowhawk and it handles them great...Im curious and not knocking the other loads at all..But when you recover the loads from the carcass doesnt it bother you its doesn not pass thru..?

Remington 700 243....85 grain Sierra Spitzer over 43.5 grn.4350. Taken 100+ whitetails from 75 to 300+ yds, never had a pass thru, never had to track a single one. They fell dead or 1 or 2 steps....When a bullet passes thru they don't get the full kenetic shock from the bullet, thats why they run!

Always have loved hornady bullets...once put three factory rounds in the same hole with my 7mag at 100yds. And I do mean the same hole. Since I started reloading I use hornady bullets 90% of the time.

Used Hornady Superperformance and Custom for my 25.06, 270 and 308 for years.

Love it. Groups well and very consistent.
