I have the long barreled ruger super redhawk 44 mag. stainless steel and want to put a scope on it. Never had a scope on a pistol so don't know what I am looking for. Don't want top of the line but not low end either. What rings are good and what mid-grade scope should I be looking for?

Do a quick search, or look back over the last couple of weeks on the optics section. Several good pistol scope threads have come up. Leupold, Burris, Nikon. There are several good mfg. that are decently priced. Then you'll want to decide on what works for you. Like a fixed 4x, or a 2-7x variable, etc. Like I said, do a quick search you might find enough info to answer your questions.

I have several scoped handguns. Nikon and Burris are good choices. I would suggest a 2x7 variable over a fixed 2 or 4 power scope. If you have a Ruger, you should already have rings and bases with it, otherwise Leupold, Burris or any name brand will work fine. The variable power is definitely a plus in many hunting situations.

I have several variables and they're the best for load testing, no doubt. They're also fairly heavy which can alter the balance of your pistol. If you don't mind this, then go for the variable, by all means. If it bothers you, then try a 2x or 4x Leupold, according to your preference.

If you don't have the factory rings, you'll have to have offset rings or a off set base and regular rings for a super redhawk, I have a leupold 4x on mine and love it

Burris is good. I have a Bushnell Trophy XLT 2-6 and I like it allot. If you didnt get Ruger rings with your purchase order them

I have several Bushnell trophy scopes on 7-08, 250 savage, 357 maximum, love them. I have Leupold also and I don't notice much difference.
