Ive lost goats two nights in a row. First night a 3 week old baby was killed and eaten and two other had bites on their rears. I set up snare and leghold traps yesterday but last nigght I lost our big momma goat, she was killed and bones stripped in one night, only thing left was her head and bones. And another goat was bit on back leg.

I need someone to predator call and kill. Im 6 miles south of emory and 15 miles north of canton. If anyone is interested, please let me know ASAP. Will glady set up several nights/evenings if multiple people are interested.

Thanks

Nathan...do you have guard dogs on your property?....if so you might want to check and make sure it's not the dogs that are attacking the herd...my sister in law ran into something similar and even though we do have a coyote problem here her losses on adults was coming from one of her own guard dogs.

Our dogs are fenced at the house and can not get to that pasture unless they go with me. They also grew up around our goats. Im looking for a livestock guard dog right now to keep with the goats but hopefully can get some of the attackers killed before then. The goat that was killed last night was intact from the neck up and no bite marks on the throat so I dont believe it was a big cat. It also wasnt dragged off, but was eaten right there.

Found this scat on a bloody area where whatever it was first took down the goat last night. Any ID help?

Also, here is what was left of her. She was fine yesterday evening and this morning this is whats left.

Yotes did the exact thing to some of my axis. Looking just like this the next AM. We got a fat ol jenny and now the yotes dont bother anything we have.

Nathan, from what you have described, I'd say farrel dogs. Dogs attack legs, hips and tails first usually. And once a yote has his teeth in one animal it is the kill. The scat looks more dog than yote. If you have a barking pet dog take him with you when you hunt, it might bring in what your having a problem with. Good luck.

I got more traps set. Set 3 leg traps around the goat carcass with bacon under them. And set a couple more leg traps along the fence baited with bacon and redid some of my snares.

I have my goats penned up by the house, so hopefully I catch something tonight.

We are looking right now for either a donkey that has been with goats or a great pyr to run with them.

Although I just found out that a neighbors full grown great pyr was killed in his field about a 1/4 mile up the road.

Ive also talked to my neighbor who has a house in the woods on the side of that field and have given him permission to shoot over the fence and kill any yote/dog/varmint he sees.

No luck last night. Although I was checking on my goats s everal time throughout the night so my presence and my shining a spotlight around the field may have kept them away. Plan on rsetting my traps tonight and leaving the field alone.

Have someone coming out tues/wed night. Hopefully we can get whatever it is.

You can use a little aromatherapy to help keep unwanted critters away. Leave your old clothes out, or get some antiperspirant/doedorant and leave scent on trees or fenceposts. If the predators have a fear of humans, those smells make keep them away.
You can also put it on the goats if you want to, just be prepared for a few jokes if your friends and neighbors say the animals smell like you.

Looks like dog, but a well fed yote will look like that as well. I usually see more fur and seeds in the yotes around here. Dogs that are well fed will have no hair or seeds in the scat. I imagine yotes are the same.
