Ok so I will start my feeder. Now another issue. Neighbor ranch that is next to my property leases to hunters. They show up around rut time and will shoot any deer they see. Does fawns and button bucks it does not matter to them I only have 50 acres so I am sure that what they are doing affects what I bring to the feeder and the deer population around hunting season. Does anyone know of any methods or tricks to reduce the impact on deer population in the immediate area? Thanks

You are really SOL I am afraid when it comes to trying to control a neighbor. If you have tried to talk with them then there is not much else you can do. Best thing you can do at that point is become very friendly with the GW in your area and have him visit quite often.

Yup, only thing you can do is put up a high fence around your 50 acres and hunt that. Or, you could buy your neighbor out. Other than that, welcome to Texas hunting.

You saying he should call the GW after every shot he hears?

Nope, just invite him over for a BBQ and tell him when ever he is in the area to stop by for a visit.

They do and if they are there around opening day of dove season or around the rut eating some BBQ they might hear a lot of shooting going on. They always pay attention to shots they hear.

Aside from this problem, just being out there away from the city and work is a good time either way.

A buddy & I had a 250 acre lease that was over run by the guy next door's dogs running hogs. Mentioned it to the GW and invited him for a late breakfast one Saturday morning about the time the dogs were usually turned loose along our east fence line...Surprise Surprise Surprise when the GW's pickup eased out of our campsite gate in view of the east fence line watching neighbor. No Muss No Fuss about the dogs ever again after the GW having the fastest ticket book in Erath County being demonstrated with a warning that it had a LOT of Empty pages to fill ...and helped Bigtime that our 84 year old Landowner made the call.

There isn't much you can do as long as the deer are legally shot. Trying to manage a small place is like trying to herd cats, it just won't work without the help of your neighbors.

Like has been said your SOL with a place that small. My suggestion would be to just feed the thunder out of it and try to hold what you can. I've got 8 miles of fence around my place and my neighbors have a total of 9 blinds/feeders all on the fenceline. All I can do is just feed the hell out of it and try to hold them close to home. Works pretty well!

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Plant trees or cedars around your place & have good food within. Create a safety zone for the deer.
+ feed the GW.

Same thing happened to us we HF'd, and to the point our neighbor who had fence line with 4 other people eventually got HF'd in. Good luck that's a Sh!tty situation.

Obviously they have the right. And if they abuse it, they don't get to complain about being HFd out.

Take up bowhunting...keep your place as quiet as possible...no shooting no riding nota.... I promise you it will work if you have the cover for them to hide out in... I got 40acres that has 3 2,000+ acre ranches surrounding it.... my best hunting is when guns start flying during youth season

Before we HF we had a neighbor that had 3 boys and everyone hunted. Their idea was that if you shot every buck you could as their does came in heat it would draw in the bucks from the neighbors and they could take them. And they bragged about what they did. That was the original reason we HFed.

Some people just begged to be fenced out.

I know a guy that used to brag about how he let the youth group at his church hunt his 13 acres and how like a dozen of the little youngsters all shot deer. I get that it's nice to involve the youth, but you can't do so in a fashion that is irresponsible and damaging to the neighbors.

Of course he was shocked when his tiny plot that was bordered by the same owner on 3 sides was suddenly HFd out.
