In trying to plan a sprinkler system this year. I've already received a design plan from Rainbird but am not happy with it (WAY too many zones/heads for my small yard). If anyone is able to design a system please PM me your email so I can email my layout and Rainbirds design.

There are a couple guys here that are licensed. I'm not, but designed my years ago when we moved in to water the way I was going to landscape it-flower beds are separate from turf. I've got an average (7200 sf) lot and used 6 zones.

There's actually a member named Sprinkler Specialist. I'd think he'd be a good person to start with. Good luck.

Yes I will, I thought I had it on my desktop but apparently it is on my old laptop. I will dig it up and post it.

Not to hijack but I have a quick question, if you do not mind:

I have a small system, 3 zones, this spring, I went to turn it on and noticed 2 zones are not pumping water to the head.

I figure it is the solenoids but I cannot find them. I went to the water main out front, found an extra "cover" about 3 feet away, and figured it was the solenoids. Opened it up and there is a 3 inch PCV pipe with 3 manual valves running inline...but no solenoids.

When I turn the on the one zone that does work, I can hear the water move through the line in my garage...

lol, does anyone know how I can go about locating the location of my solenoids?

I am trying to DIY but I am very close to hiring someone just to find the dang things.

I would lose the rotary heads (south side) that are 25'+/- apart and go with spray heads. You might have to add a zone and it will increase the amount of heads...but its worth it. (unless its just the dog run or gravel.)
cant tell from the drawing....but i would put the flower beds on separate zones from the turf.
I like the drip on the side as long as they aren't flower beds or grass.
make sure you are getting a Rainbird (espme) controller with a Rainbird rain and freeze sensor.
The heads I would demand Rainbird 1800 series pop-up sprays heads with U-series nozzles, and Hunter PGP rotors(if you go with rotors).
Make sure the permit is pulled.
after installation make sure the back flow test is done and the city signs off. (green card)
I wouldn't make the final 1/3 of the payment until these things are done. ( tend to get done faster this way)..make sure to let him know you intend to hold onto the cash until the backflow test and green card is issued.
hope this helps. gl

Thanks for the advice. Rainbird did this diagram off a drawing I made and my survey, so I don't have an installer yet. What would you estimate a system like this run with professional installation? I'm still amazed at how many sprinkler heads are needed for a +/-5,500sq ft lot

sometimes things look good on paper, but not good in a real life situation. I would want to look for myself, but somewhere between $3 and $4K

I have 15 years in the sprinkler business, and completly agree with sprinkler specialist, cept I do not like rainbird at all. I only use hunter parts.
Anytime you use a rainbird program or hd or lowes for a design remember they are selling their products, the more they sell the more they make.
Talk to neighbors and friends. find a GOOD sprinkler guy in your area. and do not be afraid to pay for this. If you go low bid chances are you will be paying more in the long run.

right on..this is absolutely true...22 years in the business and we thrive off the circus installing systems...they will fall apart and need repairs usually in the 1st year or two.
everybody has their products....i am not a fan boy, I use whatever works best. Rainbird controllers(esp) have the longest warranty in the business. esp stand for extra simple programming, cause they are user friendly... but hunter controllers are ok in my book, i just dont recommend them.
as far as valves go...hunter blows, rainbird rules the nest in this category hands down, there is no argument!! but rainbird rotors blow, and hunter rules here. rainbird rain and freeze sensors are the best made, nothing compares.
TAKE YOUR TIME, GET 3-5 ESTIMATES AND DONT PICK THE LOWEST PRICE. .. ask what parts will be used. make sure nothing they use will be bought at home depot/lowes. gl

I just had a sprinkler system put in my moms yard last week. It covered 8200 sf with 8 zones one of those zones being a drip zone/foundation zone around the peremiter of the house. Total cost was $2800. The same guy did my house 2 years ago with about the same size yard but he put in 9 zones for $2500. I got 6 bids on my moms house and they ranged from $1500 to $5200. I went with the guy I did cuz he offered the best warrenty. I think 3 years on parts and 1 on labor.

Mine worked really good after I glued 2 of the lines together. They used primer in spots instead of glue
