I have this rifle, and it looks great, but really has a kick too it, not sure if I want to keep it or put something on the butt to lighten the recoil. Any ideas?

That stock is too light, in my opinion. I have a M77 Mk. II in 6.5x55 and I put a Boyd's laminate on it and have not regretted it. They are nice, well made stocks and they will give it not only some more weight but a better look. http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/product.htm?pid=8902&cat=1223That Nutmeg would look pretty sweet with the stainless.

High tech customs muzzle brake Keep the stock and get this break installed. I have it on that exact gun (mine wasnt the skeleton just the regular plastic one) and I can stay in the scope to watch impact shots at 100 yards. Mine is now wearing a Boyd's custom Thumbhole... But the weight of the stock isnt what stops the recoil...HTC's Claim of 60-80% reduced recoil is dead on. Get a break installed. That stock is HIGHLY desireable if you decide to not head my advice and sell it. PM ME PLEASE.

The Boyd's laminates are my faves as well. Just got another one for a Husky/FN build I'm doing now. I have them on a couple of the '98's, a 24/47 and my 700 .270 Win.

I probably will end up selling, and let someone else modify it to their liking. Russell

I had one of those in 7mm Mag... Holy hell did that thing kick.. The first scope I put on it had terrible eye relief and first time I shot it I got kissed on the eye brow pretty hard lol. I sold mine too.

I have one of these in .243 and in .270. They both kick, but the .270 plain hurts with this stock.

My son had one is 7 mag and it was a kicker....he had a heck of a time keeping his Leupold scope from slipping in the rings....finally put a little piece of friction cloth under the scope tube and it stayed put....he moved to Managed recoil ammo and the kick was less and he started getting "bang flop" kills on whitetail out to 200+ yards instead of "jump or no reaction and walk off or run".....

I sold mine too. Glad I'm not the only one, the scope on it now has short eye relief, I cringe before I pull the trigger, so it does nothing for my aiming. Russell

Russell It didn't help KR's natural rugged looks either!

I had this same gun in both 30-06 and 308. Installed the pachmayr decelarator on them both. Worked OK. Still kicked but not as bad. They make one specific for this stock. These are highly sought after. If you list it to sell it wont take long to have a list of 'I wants'. I ended up selling mine off to some buddies that really wanted them, but I miss the 308. Excellent mountain gun

It is on it's way to Dallas today, because someone wanted to give it a new home. I will stick with my Remington 742 semi auto.

Good call. I once had a Thompson encore with a barrel chambered in a 300 win mag. Every deer season I had it, I tried to hustle the gun to someone else to sight in for me. Never was successful. "If it ain't fun to shoot, it ain't worth owning"

Nice rifle. Do you use factory ammo or reload. If you reload, you could try reloading with a slower powder and lighter bullet, such as like with 150 gr bullet and 4350 or a touch slower powder. In some cases it might not be as an efficient load but it will give a lighter or perceived lighter recoil. Depending on the slower powder used, don't go below 85 - 90% loading density though.
