Look up your city ordinance. most cities look at archery equipment as weapons. In all the cities I have lived in it is illegal to shoot a weapon in the city limits.

I got the law called on me once. The cops came and they told the lady yes it's a weapon but not a firearm. Therefore I could practice all I want!

Our HOA has a rule against it but it's not enforced. At least not yet!

They are thinking its a firearm...but its not... very doubtful its against the law and id tell the neighbor to shov it. If it is against the law id move away from that mess... that would drive me nuts that someone is going to tell me I cant shoot my bow on my own land. HA!

HA! ^^^ Agree When I lived in CS in college I lived in a trailer park. We shot our bows all the time. 20 yards was easy to stretch out in the yard, but we shot up to 60 and that was shooting across the street. If my neighbor actually had the guts to say that Id tell them to f off.

It is illegal where I live. I asked the cops about it when I called for a different reason.
What happens in the confines of my back yard is nobody else's business. I've been at if for years without any problems. Just keep a low profile about it and nobody cares.

Did you live in the one off of dowling? It was on the corner of Rock prarie and What used to be called Jones Butler, its called holleman now on the map I think. Rolling ridge was the name. If your familiar with the place it was 126 rolling ridge where we lived you couldn't have missed it, we had a number of catfish heads hung around the place and there was usually some form of deer or hog hanging on the porch or fish being filleted on the steps.

Heck my neighbors stop and visit when i clean a deer in the front yard. A couple whined a little. I use the tree in the back now but it's a better tree with more light available or else I would be out front.

First deer I ever shot with my bow was in CS. It was about 9 am and I was just starting to gut her in the yard when the property manager drove up. She shook her head and said yal have got to quit doin this stuff and then asked me how long I had left till I graduated.

In most incorporated cities it probably is illegal. I do practice in my backyard.
But before we all get high and mighty about no one telling us what to do in our own backyard, we do have to acknowledge that accidents do happen and if it is IS possible for an arrow to leave your backyard even with a field tip on the end it certainly could be a problem - potentially a very serious injury or even a fatality.
Thankfully in my situation I live on the edge of a small lake and I shoot TOWARDS the lake in case something goes terribly wrong.
We are all confident in our abilities, but I sure would not want some idiot next door to me practicing with his bow in his backyard but shooting in my direction.

I shoot in my front yard sometimes. Against my own fence of course. Cop strolled the neighborhood one day and asked what kind of bow I was shooting, and if he could shoot a couple. I said hell yea go for it lol.

I've skipped one off the ground into the back stop when my D loop broke and busted my lip to boot. It can happen and though I'm set up to be as safe as possible I never practice when the neighbors kids are in the back yard.

Depends on where you live. In the DFW area, a lot of cities have ordinances that prohibit archery within the city. But I shot a lot in my backyard at 20 yards with no problems.

Most cities have rules against any object propelled by mechanical or air/combustion force. This includes firearms, bows, and sling shots. The actual written ordinace is written more fancy, but all the fun stuff you can not shoot. A long time ago when I lived in Dallas, I shot my bow in a huge bowl behind an apartment complex. One day I look up and saw an officer standing there watching me. I asked him was there any problem, and he said no, not down in there. Someone had seen me and called it in he said. How I was shooting, there was no way an arrow was leaving that area.

I am in Carrolton and practice in my backyard all the time. Idk what the laws are whether against it or not, but I figure if the can do it in the schools on the school football fields, then I can in my own backyard where I at least have a backstop! Until they put the cuffs on me for it, i'm gonna keep on keepin on. Like someone else said "low profile...no problem"

I don't do it in my backyard as the houses are just too close together, and if you saw my post where I was in my garage and shot out the circuit breaker, you know accidents can happen. I still shoot in the city limits but shoot in my brothers backyard towards a huge open field with no houses within hundreds of yards and I am shooting downhill. I read the city ordnances but have yet to find one specific to archery.
