I would be worried about it being to tightly sealed causing the inside to sweat from the moisture content of the corn. Also would need a very flat level area to see it up on. They make a great timer so it should mechanically be a great feeder.

Thanks
Based upon your experiences who makes the best 450-600 lb feeders for the money?

I have to agree with the ranchman. I build and have sold many winch feeders over the years. I have to say I have NEVER had a customer complain about HCR FCU's, solar panels, or funnels. I also want to say that I am not a distributor, I use the because they don't let my customers down.

Hard to match the quality of an All Season Galvanized 600# or 800# feeder with the Timer, Solar and Eliminator Spin plate. I own 5 of them. One is going on 12 yrs old now.

Just make sure you get a good electronic unit and you should be fine.

I build my own but I use HCR control units and some custom units that use "The Timer". Both are great dependable units. I had my first problem with a HCR timer last year but I think it was just a one time glitch since it hasnt duplicated the problem since I reset it. That unit is probably a decade old though. At some point they will all quit and I think 10 good years is more than enough good years to keep me from complaining about that little glitch.

I do not know anything about HCR feeder designs but their control untis and timers are more reliable than a Rolex. I've had two since 2005 and haven't had a problem.

Just got a brand new Battery Free Feeder from Diamond Feeders. This thing sounds incredible. I talked to the guys at Diamond Feeders and they have had their test unit out for 4 years with no battery whatsoever! They use a combination of capacitors and a solar panel, it cost $249 and I don't have to ever worry about changing my batteries again or resetting my feed times. Count me in. I also have some of their VarmintX feeders that have performed without any problems for years.

Here is the link for the Battery Free Control Unit:
