With the 1:9 remington accutip 120 gr was most accurate in my model 7 by a significant margin.

Maybe see what Chad has to offer. It's going to be better than any factory ammo.

I don't shoot factory ammo, but I do have info on two bullets that have worked real well for me. I started out using 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and then went to 100 gr Ballistic Tips. The 120's worked great and have seemed a bit more deadly downrange than the 100's. I'll stay with the 100's because my short barreled rifle (16.5 inch barrel) can get the 100's to 3000 fps. Can't do that with the 120's. If you have a 22 inch barrel, use the 120's.

All the input is appreciated. Keep it coming. Don't know a lot about the 260 round. Thanks

.260 is one of (if not the) most popular cartridges among tactical style rifle competitors. 130 and 140 gr Berger VLDs and 140 gr Hornady A-maxes are the lion's share of the bullets shot out of the 260 with those guys (myself included). My 1:8.5" twist barrel started with 130 gr VLDs at 2950 fps. Knowing I was going to smoke the barrel in a little over 1000 rounds, i worked up a load with 140 Hornady A-Maxes.

Rem brass
CCI 200
H-4350 43.2 gr.
140 A-max even with the lands

Muzzle Velocity of 2800 fps and it's super sonic to 1450 yards.

In short, I hate to tell you this, but you need to load your own. That is the nature of the 260 right now. There just isn't ammo offered to allow the 260 to do what it is so capable of. In time the equipment will pay for itself. Now it costs me $0.45 per round.

For factor ammo look at Federal premium or Nosler

If you have no plans to reload, I would get with Chad and for best results take advantage of letting him work up a load for you and your rifle, then stick with it.

With a 1:9" twist, you are right on the edge of stability with a 140 grain bullet. Technically, it should work, but you'd have to try it and see. A 120/123 grain bullet would work well. Something like a 123 A-max or 123 Scenar would work well. I have 1K of the 6.5mm 123 Scenars. There's a few calibers I know extremely well, and the 260 is one of them. Let me know if I can help you! Thanks!

Chad

Chad, How do the 123r scenars work on WTail sized critters? ..better than NBT's? I've used Sierra 120gr PH's @ Swede speeds and not getting pass thru's on body shots very often...but they all went in one hole most of the time, so I could pretty much pick which tick bite scar to hit. So I am loading 129/130 gr SST's & NAB's for the 260 and am still working up a load I am comfortable with.

Recently I saw another repected comment from the Pacific Nwest on another channel tout 6.5 Scenars in heavier weights out of a 260 or 6.5Swede for everything from Roosevelt Elk, Black Tails to 'yotes at longer ranges than I can shoot accurately.

Anybody got any hands on in 260 factory Federal Fusion 120 gr'ers on WTail sized critters?
Cheers
Ron

The 139 Scenars that I have customer feed back on did fine, mainly from 260 Rem, a one 6.5x47 Lapua. They often give pass through's with a nickel to quarter size exit. Some didn't open up as much as some hunters would like. But for Texas critters, a 123 or 139 Scenar would do just fine. Shot placement would be the main factor, and if that bullet shoots well, I wouldn't hesitate to use it on Texas game.

I do not know if any factory loaded ammo is available, but I have had very good results with the 123 amax. They are killing machines!

Black hills shoots just about as good as my hand loads. And out of my rifle (26" palma 1-8 shilen) if its not windy and i do my part i can get 1/4 moa 3 shot strings at 500 yds.

Ps the Blk hills is a 139 scenar Hand load is a 140 nosler match. Identical poi
