Okay, I will get the fight started this morning.

If it is setting on a high line along the side of a road or high way, the answer is No.

If it is setting on a high line going across a pasture, I do not believe that it is actually illegal, could be wrong on that, but it ain't real smart to do even if it is legal.

Doves setting on a fence, as long as you have permission to hunt on both sides of the fence, or shoot across the fence on to the neighboring property, is legal.

Doves setting in a tree or on the ground are legal game.

Now, any of the stuff I listed above, whether legal or not, does not fall under most peoples concept of "Sporting".

That is why most people say, "No, You Can't Shoot A Dove Out Of A Tree, It Is Illegal'.

They are wrong, it is legal, but again, just not "Sporting".

Of course many of those same people have done that very thing as some previous time in their life, but then they became enlightened and stopped doing such things, and in the true nature of any Reformed anything, they place such actions beneath contempt and relgate those that do such actsinto the same category as rats and fleas, possibly even lower.

Let the games begin.

Ditto what chc said.

If you are new to hunting and having a hard day hitting them, go ahead and site your gun in. Then it confirms you suck at hitting them in the air.

Only if no one is around to see you do it. If someone sees you, you will never hear the end of it!

If the birds are moving good I wont, but if it is a slow day, I have no problem doing it. I dont hunt because it is hard, I hunt because it is fun and I like to eat what I shoot. If it falls out of a tree, it is no skin off my nose.

I was hunting with a guy who brought his 9 year-old son on his first dove hunt. The dad said he could only shoot 1 bird from the wire per day. The boy missed the first one and only ended up with 2 birds (one off the wire and one in flight) and the birds were thick that day.

I guess it's OK to shoot one off the wire if you are nine and it's your first hunt.

I think it depends on why you hunt. I like the sport of it but i eat everything i shoot. So i take the Duck Commanders approach. He told me "I don't shoot birds that are swimming on the water I wait till they stop, it is easier to to shoot a bird that is not moving than moving."

If it is ok to shoot one when you are nine, then at 41 I can shoot 4.5 when perched.

Nothing better than a big old dead mesquite tree with a sack of milo for bait. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

So, of the nay sayers, what say you about an injured bird that lands in a tree?

You have to wait until he heals up, then he becomes fair game in the tree. I never saw a skillet shot that I did not like. With a properly baited dead mesquite tree you should be able to limit out on 3 shells.

the senseless secondary slaughter of mesquite, hackberry, and boisdarc trees on fencelines while in the pursuit of dove is completely unacceptable. Don't any of you love trees?

Seth, my favorite mesquite tree has been dead since the 50s and not even the wild pasture fires have been able to bring down my "skillet" tree.

I am working on a mojo tree, which is electric, wind powered electric of course, which will shock the dove on it's branches when you press the button. I'm being proactive to the steel shot testing done in Brownwood. With the cost of steel shot my mojo tree will be the future of dove hunting. I have been sending T Boone emails but he won't respond, I might need to find another investor.
