22lr ... (Best for deer)
Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I roll with a Winchester Model 70 7mm Rem Mag. I don't like my deer to run away.
Texas is better.

I use a 22-250 Weatherby Vaunguard. It has a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50mm. My dad uses a 30-06. ^^ He has a Nikon Buckmasters 4-12x50mm.
If I could get another rifle in the same price, it'd be the Tikka T3 Hunter in 7mm-08

Depending on where you hunt..the distance of the shot..your budget..if you reload, ect ..all of this is a factor....Good to great projectiles and proper shot placement kill every time..no excuses..If you don't reload you may wish to look at a 270 Win, a .308 Win, or a 30-06...all usually shoot good groups w/factory loads and will kill any thing in the U.S....Don

Most often in the stands and jeep with me and my boy are the 308 and 243. Both have proven very deadly shooting 150s out of the 308 adn 100s out of the 243. The little 243 has anchored several big bodied S TX bucks (200+ lbs on the hoof) without a problem.
It is all about accuracy, what gun you are most comfortable with, and putting the bullet where it is supposed to go.
Good luck with your search
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

For deer, I use a CVA Stalker Elite, single shot, chambered in .30-06.
My varmint rifle is a Savage .22LR bolt-action.

I likes my 30-30. Light, handy, fast to the shoulder, kills anything in Texas, and doesnt blow up meat.
for the bullet....150 gr round nose, either a power-point or corelokt

Lots of "Deer Calibers" out there. W/ over 50 years experiences, I only load 100 gr Nosler Partitions in the wife's .243 which I consider very marginal on deer sized game. A .260 or 7-08 would be better and .308 better still.
If I use a "modern" gun it is the .30-06. Modern in quotes as the 98 Mauser and the .30-06 are over 100 years old and aint nothing broke. Stuff it w/ 150 gr Partitions.
Current first choice is a .50 flintlock with 90 gr FFg black powder and a .495 round ball. TC

not one vote for 8mm? I love my 8x57IS. It punches deer hard, and doesn't leave a bruise in your shoulder like some of the magnums do.
I suppose if I didn't use that, I'd go with the. 30-06. Have had success with both, and even once scored a double boar kill with one round from the .30-06 on a pass through.
Korea is nothing like Germany, and no amount of Army Modernization propaganda will convince me otherwise. I miss my wife and kids something fierce
