I just bought this game camera and I'm inexperienced with these things. Will the flash scare the deer off? Should I have bought the I40 model that states it has an infrared flash? Just curious, I don't want to scare everything off before the season starts. Thanks for any feedback.

They will get use to the flash from what I've heard. Helo is probably the one to ask he has a D40.

I have several of the D40's and the flash doesn't seem to bother the deer at all. I have had pretty good luck with the D40, especially considering the price. I get a lot of pics and some of them are very good. I change my batteries about every 45 days. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, I'm setting it up this weekend. Any more suggestions? Does the brand of SD card matter?

You probably have the camera to close to something. Try moving it further back and it should fix you empty pic problems. The D 40 is pretty good, but the M-40 is much better. And no I have 9 gig worth of game cam pics to prove that they flash doesn't bother them for long. They even get used to motion lights.

No the brand doesn't matter. I have at least 4 different brands and use them in all of my cams.

Do you have any low laying limbs/branches or tall grass?

The movement from the wind can trigger your camera.

I have the same camera, it wont take pics of limbs and such moving. But it does take wonderful pics of any bird that flys by! It is not trigried by movement as much as heat. Any bird, or any other critter that comes by no matter how small will get its picture taken. The first time I put mine out I got over 1000 pics on it. 99 percent of them were of birds, and other critters, even had one snake ! Suggest that you set your pics to two instead of three and make the delay a little higher to knock out some of the extra pics you get. Mine works really well no complaints.

Moved camera back, and lowered it to the ground, little higher than knee height. Works wonderful now,out of 393 pictures I got about 25-30 of nothing. Before the move it would be 365-380 of nothing and the rest good ones.

Thanks ya'll
