I am working on building an AR15 in 6.8 spc. I am slowly gathering parts as I find reasonable prices. My question is "What barrel would be the best?" i.e. length, twist, etc, etc.

Also if anyone has any extra parts laying around let me know. I have the lower complete and a stripped upper on the way.

Look at 6.8 forums. Lots of good information especially on barrels and manufacturers. I got my barrel from arperformance.com.

ARP 6.8 5R. It's a Shaw blank punched out to ARP's spec's. And while your @ it get an ARP Super Bolt!

Bison is also Shaw. WOA may be as well but I don't know too much about their barrels but a lot of people seem to be real happy w/them.

I went with the 16". Over on the 68forums there is a lot of good information which is where I found out a lot.

From what I learned, there really isn't much more fps gained going from 16-18-20" barrel lengths. I also didn't want a heavy rifle since it is going to be used for hunting.

Have owned 4 different 6.8 upper setups in both 16" and 18"

I have settled on the lightweight 16" from Wilson Combat
Will shoot a 10 round group of 95 TTSX at 2850 FPS into .75"

That works for me.

ARP is as good as it gets. Go with a 16" As said above you won't gain much at all with the 18-20"

Main things to look for are...
SPC-II chamber
Either 1-11 or 1-12 twist
Do NOT get faster than 1-11 twist or you will have pressure probs with hotter loads.

My vote, as above, is ARP but wilson
Bison
WOA
and other specialized brands are gtg.
The off brands and box brands like cmmg, dpms, rra are ok but the others I feel are a step above.

I have a 16" ARP 6.8 x 43 5R. I think it's 1:11 twist.

I have a 16" ARP with 1:11 twist. It shoots just about anything into sub 1" groups.
