Ive been looking for a lease with no luck. I just want a dove lease in the San Antonio area. I was driving the back roads this past weekend saw some nice areas to hunt dove. My question is has anyone ever just knocked on the door and asked permission or about leasing for the season? I just want to hear some experiences people have had knocking on doors.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The worst that happens is someone says no. Might want to check with feed stores as well.

Check with the Chamber of Commerce out in Hondo, Sabinal or Castroville about hunting in those areas. The area farmers would be a good place to start looking also out west of SA.

Absolutely knock on doors. You never know and it sometimes works.

I've done this up in NW Arkansas with some success. Nothing ventured nothing gained. You get Yes, No, and sometimes a referal to another land owner. If No.....Always ask if they know someone that might be open to the idea. I've had good luck when referred to another land owner as you can then say 1st land owner referred you. Kind of opens the door a bit.

If you've got the time, then by all means, knock on doors, the answer is always NO unless you ask.

Make your firstshot count!

The "knocking on doors" tactic was real common years ago. It can still work today. It always helped to have a kid with you. My dad used to drag me around to farms looking for places to hunt deer. I remember one stop at an old farm house with a cow-and-calf operation. The old man that lived there asked, "Do you want to hunt or kill a deer? If you want to hunt, stay to the back half of the place and keep your shots to the North. If you want to kill a deer come back about 4:30 and sit in your truck behind my feedlot."
